My Mother showed me this monument, hidden by forest and brambles years ago, we had to search to find it, years later I took friends there to see it, The pet cemetery was hidden but the big monument was there although there was no dog statue on top at that time. I was always afraid someone would buy the land and just destroy the history of this place. Now that it has been restored I am amazed by how close to the road it is as there were times we could not even find it in the woods. It always makes me cry when I think about all the dogs left behind in Vietnam, after serving our troops, what a horrible thing to do but nevertheless I am glad they are remembered here and this memorial is truly a Michigan gem. Read moreThe Michigan War Dog Memorial is an honorable and sad place of rest for dogs who have served both in military as well as local law enforcement. As I walked through this place along it's long white concrete path, i experienced both nostalgia and and sorrow for the K9 soldiers and officers that had their names etched into square slabs and headstones in the Cemetery. Never would i have thought to be moved so passionately by the unknowing dedication and love, that i can only imagine, sprang from the service from these dogs whilst in the line of service for their country, their handlers, and their fellow soldiers...
