Stayed in twin oaks, at a primitive campsite. Was a tuesday so I think we were only people in the whole park, besides the host. I thought the park was a diamond in the rough. It could really be something special if they had the resources to fix it up. Its huge and has I think 4 diff campgrounds inside. 6, 8, 18, and $20 The shower house is broken, and most of the bathrooms are usable, but not the nicest things. The bathroom near the hosts campsite(its the only one in the park that has a working outdoor light) is the one to use. The rest have broken stink pipes, and are infested with flies. The host is an extremely nice older gentleman. You will register with him for any site. We are backpack hikers so we chose to stay in a primitive back country campsite. There's a gravel rd that has the sites along it, they each have a picnic table and a fire pad, but most are in bad need of maintenance, busted picnic table, downed trees, etc. We chose the furthest one at the very end, of the prob one mile rd, site #30. Our site had the added bonus of being littered with used TP(stuns me that people do this, clean up after yourselves people) so anyway, this particular site has a long path that you can drive your car down, we asked ahead of time and the host said it was ok, so we just drove down the path to the site, a few big roots but nothing an SUV cant handle. The site was big and had a good table, a fire pad and a path down to the lake for fishing. Firewood is fairly easy to scrounge up in the woods, as there is so much dead fall. or down by the other sites areas. We had no problem finding wood. The park says it has hiking trails, and they look like they could all join together for a loop around the lake. But we found them to be so overgrown, and unmarked that I wouldn't come here to hike. So officially, I'd say theres about 5 diff trails, but all really go nowhere. so fine, we also had our bikes with us, but thats a no go at this park also, unless you like climbing giant straight up hills with dangerous quick descents. so we ended up basically just camping, but that afforded us the chance to try a bunch of new products, since we had the car right next to us. All in all, I liked the park, and I could see an RV traveler, wanting to stop for a few days, having a good time here. It has a beautiful lake. and Its very serene and quiet. . But as a destination, I'd say no. It just needs too much work done. They do keep it mowed though. Also, the town of Macomb is 21K people and is only 3 miles away. It has all restaurants and a walmart
p.s. as far as riding bikes, if you ride around the parking lot and the entrance, sure.. its flat. Im talking about riding around the whole park perimeter rd.. Thats extremely...
Β Β Β Read moreMy family and I come here often to hike, drive around, and even camp, at times. We've been doing so for over 18 years. The trails are cut for the most part. Earlier in the season we came to hike and the trails we tried were not cleared yet. So I would advise to hit the trails once they've been cleared for a safer walkway. Unfortunately, we do not go to the shack anymore. We've had past experiences of rudeness, & closure when it was supposed to be open. Plus, you cannot rent kayaks there. We would love to see kayaks being rented out again. It would be such a bit. The lake and the land are both majestic. It's hard to beat the opportunity to bond with nature. This area is fortunate to have this park, everyone should...
Β Β Β Read moreI grew up going to this park. The beautiful pines, the large playground, beautiful clean lake, stair lead trails throughout the forest! Now I visit it with my children and point out the tree I planted with the park and thats the only neat thing. The playground is gone and left with a broken old playground and a pathetic excuse for a sensory like playgroundπ The lake is drained, the stairs are unkept, the rv's are full here but only to park somewhere and literally watching tv outsideπ The big beautiful pines are dying along with many other trees. This park is in desperate need of restorationπ’ I think the town has even been long forgotten...I pray one day there's a change and a real need to treasure our...
