Lot is a circle that holds maybe 10 cars but you could park on on the road at the circle if need be. Doubt you will need to as I have NEVER seen anyone here. Trailhead has signage, two picnic tables, and a book box. No bathrooms or trash bins. No numerical markers.
All trails except Poet's Walk require a bridge crossing to get to another trail. Signage at each crossing. I like to do every trail to make a loop and here is my breakdown:
Beechwood Bottom Loop: Green blazes and .5 miles if you did just the loop. This starts at the lot. Moderate trail with minor elevation change and uneven at spots. Connects to...
Creekside Loop: Red blazes and 1.1 miles. Very similar to the Beechwood Bottom Loop in scenery, terrain, etc. Some lower canopy and webs await you. Connects to...
Leatherwood Loop: Yellow blazes and 1.1 miles. A tad more elevation change than the other trails but gradual. Forest on this trail is thin and I've seen deer here each time I have done this trail. They are skittish. There are sections that are narrow with plants touching you and today there were several trees down across the trail. Nothing difficult to navigate however. Expect some webs with lower canopy.
Off the Beechwood Bottom Loop is Poet's Walk. Silver blazes. It is short and pretty much like the rest of the trails with some elevation change. Tracked it at .35 miles and this is not listed on the signage at the trailhead.
I have always done every trail here at one time by just staying to the right at each intersection. My tracker (including Poet's Walk) put this at 3.4 miles (5.41 km). This moves fast it seems and I tend to use this as a spot to work hiking fitness. The elevation change makes for an EXCELLENT speed/wind workout. This isn't the most scenic trail and it is lacking in this department compared to others. It's a 3-star hike but the solitude and the ability to get a decent workout gives it an extra star. I wouldn't make a special...
Read moreMy wife and I recently had a fantastic experience at Knight Brown Nature Preserve! This is truly a hidden gem for anyone in the Greensboro area looking for a great outdoor escape. The trails are exceptionally well-maintained, offering a wonderful hiking experience.
We enjoyed a hike of about 4 miles, exploring a few different trail options that kept the scenery fresh and interesting. The trails feature some gentle hills, which adds a nice bit of challenge without being too strenuous. We were grateful for the benches placed along the way, perfect for a quick rest and to simply enjoy the peaceful surroundings
the trails are wide enough in most spots, making it comfortable to hike even when passing others. A quick heads-up for fellow hikers: a few days after it rains, the trails can get very muddy and slippery in certain areas, so be sure to wear appropriate footwear.
You'll also want to watch your step for exposed roots and rocks, especially on the narrower parts of the trail. However, these are minor considerations for what is otherwise a beautiful and well-managed natural area. Overall, our visit was a five-star experience. The tranquility and natural beauty of Knight Brown Nature Preserve make it a must-visit. We can't wait to go back and...
Read moreAwesome hike! I hiked in this area with my family on Father's Day this year. The trails all start in the cul-de-sac at the end of Waterfield Lane in Stokesdale, NC. I visited because of the new trail, called "A Poet's Walk," which was constructed in memory of a family friend. The other trails are called Beechwood Bottom, Leatherwood and Creekside loop.
There are beautiful views of a creek along all of the trails and vegetation. There is a lot of flexibility as far as distance hiked since all the trails connect - you can do up to 4 miles or as little as 0.5 miles. There are beautiful cedar benches along the way, and plenty of entry spots to splash in the creek for dogs or kids. It was an easy drive from Greensboro, very peaceful, quiet and not heavily trafficked. I will be back and...
