Strawberry Patch is a pretty nice park.
Pros: There is a nice, winding 1 mile track. The lawn is well taken care of. The scenery is beautiful, with a little lake in the middle of the park.
There are a few areas for the kids to play. They include a pretty big swing and a couple of playsets with slides. One of the playsets is small enough for your really small kiddos (1-2 year olds). BE CAREFUL when it rains, though. The ground gets really soggy and, of course, the playground equipment gets wet.
The park has just added a cute little mailbox library. This is my favorite addition to the park! Children are welcome to take a book and leave a book. We bring books here often, and we take a book sometimes, as well. My girls love the mailbox library!
Cons: There is geese poop EVERYWHERE. I wish some kind of goose trainer could come by the park every couple of days and train the geese to only poop in the woods nearby. The geese also run the park, as they will NOT move out of the way when you are in the middle of a nice run on the track and almost stumble over them. YOU are the one who will have to get off the track and into the grass. The geese ALWAYS have the right of way.
My children prefer Liberty Park in Madison for its playground. Because of the geese and their feces, I prefer to run at Freedom Ridge in Ridgeland. However, Strawberry Patch is the closest park to our home, so we find ourselves here every so often. If you are fine with the geese, you...
Read moreLong time resident of Madison and have been going to this park for many years. I’ve really enjoyed this park for walking, running and spending time with my family, but lately this park has gone downhill. I’ve witnessed 2 car robberies in this park’s parking lot in the past 2-3 years. Also, many residents have to deal with constant bombardment of geese and ducks. City officials have installed security cameras at the park, but have done nothing to deter geese and ducks from the park. The geese, in particular, leave many droppings all over the park, block the walking trails, and have even chased some people. The bacteria in the droppings are a potential health hazard, especially for small children who may inadvertently come in contact with them. City officials fail to do anything to them since Canadian geese are federally protected and claim they clean these droppings. I don’t think so. They do not even seem to be finding legal ways to remove the geese. Madison, please clean...
Read moreStrawberry Patch Park is a little jewel in Madison—seven acres of quiet charm wrapped around a mile-long trail that circles a pond full of ducks and lily pads with sporadic benches calling you to rest every now then.
Off in the distance, the tiniest white church stands like a whispered secret. Ducks follow close behind, hoping for a dropped crumb, while a serious flock of geese holds court by the water’s edge.
Families gather here, too—the playground’s modern, built for kids ready to run wild after a slow stroll.
Lcated at St. Augustine and Old Canton, right across from Madison-Ridgeland Academy, this spot’s more than just lovely—it’s a Blue Star Memorial By-way, a quiet salute to the Armed Forces cared for with love by the Northbay-Madison Garden Club.
Strawberry Patch isn’t just a park—it’s more of a slow breath in a world that won’t...
