This was one of my favorite parks. I went there frequently to get my daily walk during my vacation. The park has a mile long path around the lake. The path is well defined and paved. There are some places that are inclined as the path follows the curves of the lake. There are 3 small wooden bridges and quite a few places to either pause and rest or enjoy the lake in other ways. Benches are provided along way but they are not all in good repair. There are some tree stumps and memorial benches that help to make up for the unusable ones. There are at least 2 visable play grounds for children and each of the play grounds have a large covered pavilion with wooden park benches and tables to use. I did notice some stretching stations along the way but it was clearly not regularly used. I really enjoyed the flocks of ducks and geese always present in various numbers. Despite the warnings I read, I found the ducks and geese to have been beautiful and not aggressive if left alone. (I neither attempted to disturb them nor to feed them). They do use the grass immediately around the lake as their bathroom, however. I was not aware of any resulting smell but I still avoided the grass for fear of stepping in the animal waste that was part of the muddy areas. My only real issue was the tiny flying insects (annoying not biting). These bugs sometimes swarmed and in general, were both very annoying and sometimes overwhelming. (Hence why I...
Read moreI had no idea this "city" lake was even there until a friend told me. I go to or through Madisonville for years. Saw the "baseball" area being built from the start. Nope! Never knew the lake was back there. Now for the lake. Really nice area. About dark lighting is provided around the lake via the walkway. Noce big open lake with enough room... if wanted that the while City of Madisonville could enjoy at the same time. My thought and may be reality. There are shaded spots to sit down near the water. But not many. Noticed a structure further around the lake. I will assume, since i did not ask, when my friend had to take his grandson to the "bathroom" that's what that is. FISHING! Oh yes. "They" for the lack if k owledge who "sponsors" it but "KIDS DAY", once a year, for children of all ages can fish for free. Check it put and I'm sure "prizes" would be given for different reasons. Open to public fishing also. Rules do apply so check...
Read moreUpdate 4/5/25: YAY!! I went to the park and what do you know?? Leashed dogs are now allowed on the walking track!! And the geese population is low!! Great job, Monroe County!! 👏👏👏👏 Now dog owners, let's show our appreciation by cleaning up our dogs poop and keeping Kefauver beautiful.
Kefauver is beautiful, but it has been overtaken by Geese. They outnumber people 10 to one, and because of this, the track is a poop obstacle course. They wouldn't have this problem if they allowed dogs on leashes around the lake. The irony is, dogs aren't allowed because they poop, but geese can absolutely wreck the park with poop and that's fine. Allow dogs on a leash. We already clean up their poop. It'll take care of the goose overpopulation. (How many times can one person write poop in a...
