We reserved and paid for 6 days at Maidstone state park over 4 months ago. We thought it would be a nice relaxing vacation, but it wasnt. We had this park highly recommended to us, so we didnt mind paying and driving as far as we did to go here. However, we stayed one night of our prepaid time and drove 3 hours back home. Unfortunately, the staff was oblivious to problems in the park. There was a large family across from us, that was just plain obnoxious. Now..dont misunderstand me, we love kids and even have 5 of our own and 2 grandchildren! In fact, it wasnt really the kids that were causing the problems. It was the parents! They didnt stop cussing and yelling at thier children, the entire time we were there. The kids were a little out of control, but with parents that yelled like that constantly.... it wasnt hard to understand why. We suffered through this the entire first day, hoping it would mellow out or someone would do something about it. (Considering the park attendant informed us that noise would be strictly enforced.) On the morning of the second day, the attendants asked "how our stay was?" we then informed them that it was noisy due to this family. We felt bad for doing so, but it was ruining our vaction. So, we then went back to camp and still waited it out for another 6 or 7 hours and nothing was done. It just got worse from there... slamming car doors, kids screaming and fighting, them hover around the bathroom, playing in the water faucets (which, that part was understandable) the kids seemed to have nothing to do, the women (mom, I am assuming) sat on the picnic table and screamed at the top of her lungs all day...so much and so many times, that her voice was becoming horse.. This was just too much, we went for relaxation and it was just not going to happen...so we packed up and left! I was sure we wouldnt be offered a refund, so we didnt even try. It's too bad that people have to ruin it for other campers and I am sure we weren't the only campers upset. You could hear this womens voice throughout the entire campsite. I'm just surprised nothing was done about it. Sad, to say we wont...
Read moreWe recently went here for a camping trip with Cub Scout Pack 828. We hade an amazing time, the ranger and hosts were beyond accommodating. Would recommend for groups or families. The lake was beautiful and facilities well maintained. When we first arrived, they were helpful with getting all arriving families to the right area while also accommodating our needs for parking. They made sure to keep the area quiet so our young ones could sleep when they needed to, (early to bed for daily adventures). It was many of our cubs first experience camping and has convinced many families to go back again. There are not many places anymore that allow for solitude while expressing the importance community. Water was amazingly clear and the loons' calls were both haunting and beautiful. So much flora and fauna for the...
Read moreWe stayed in the lean-to, Huckberry. Plenty of room for a two person and three person tent. Be aware that sound travels up the hill and it can be noisy. It was hard for our 5 and 2 year old to fall asleep but that is not the Park's fault. There is an incline from the lean-to to the parking spot but our wagon helped with loading and unloading. I will never camp without a wagon again, it's super helpful for the short but hilly walk to water! In short, we love this park! So beautiful, the day use area is immaculate. I'm a northern Vermont native and this is one of the warmest and cleanest lakes I've ever explored. With the 10 minute drive down a dirt road, it's truly a taste of...
