Read moreIt seems that this lake is possibly man-made it was also extremely probably the dirtiest body of water in the state that you can swim in that I've been to. Also the sand on the beach feels more like crushed rock instead of sand and in the direct midday sunlight it was super hot to walk on it's hard enough that my 3-year-old child had 1st and 2nd degree burns on the soles of her feet after only being on it a few seconds so I highly recommend wearing swimming shoes if you plan on going swimming.
Secondly: this has nothing to do with the park itself but the state parks as a whole I am a licensed Part 107 drone pilot and this was my first visit to an Arkansas State Park and out of all of the state parks in the states around Arkansas I've been to Arkansas is the only state that requires you to have permission from the state parks director instead of getting permission at the very least from a ranger in the visitation center to fly a drone within state parks and said permission has to be requested weeks in advance and does not have blanket permission so if you go to a state park on the date you get approved for and the weather is bad forcing you to reschedule you are forced to have to go through the application process all over again because there is no rain checks. I know the park ranger was doing his job but he could have been a little less aggressive telling me I couldn't fly my DJI Inspire 3 drone or any of my other drones I had with me in Arkansas state parks without consent from the state parks director.
Other than that the camping and the park overall seemed well maintained and there was a decent ranger presence throughout the park one drove by our picnic table at least twice every 5...
Read more4 nights, late October. As of that time, there was a No Burn order enforced (almost state wide), so no campfires. Charcoal only in the grill provided.
The staff here was very helpful on the phone and in person. I stayed in Cabin 17. Spotless, parking right at the door, gentle slope to the water and good access via a short walk to the marina. Wood burning fireplace with starter wood provided. 17 is a "duplex" cabin with an adjoining door (locking from each side, obv). If you aren't there with your "neighbor", expect you'll hear voices, footsteps from the other side. All rooms were ample size. Very good water pressure, good beds with decent pillows. Deck looking out on the lake. While the kitchen had a good assortment of dishes and pots/pans, note that they still appear to be clearing out everything after every guest (post Covid). There was nothing there in the way of supplies (salt/pepper, etc.). Plan to bring what you need.
It had been dry prior to my trip, so there was no water coming over the waterfall. Scattered pools above and below, but no streams flowing at all. The trails are pretty moderate with some easy walking trails available as well. Well marked and nice, but don't quite live up to Devil's Den State Park. Speaking of DD, the cabins here were more than adequate, but don't compare to the stone CCC cabins at DD (my opinion, of course).
I did two trips to Arkansas state parks this year and have been to White River previously. Based on my experience, the people that run the system should be commended. They do a great job and have very friendly, accommodating people that show a genuine interest in the guest...
