Very interesting landscape. The lake is very large. Coming in from Highway 395 from the north. There's a sizable Vista point you can pull off at and see the lake from an elevated point. Driving on down you can stop at 3 area's: North end, middle and the south end. At all 3 area's there's viewing area's where you can see the Tufas (mineral-pourus rock) formations in & near the lake. They look like something from another planet. The best area for up close viewing is by far the south end. On the road to the south end there's a side road (has sign) that takes you out to Panum Crater. Once there you can hike up to the rim and you will have great views of Mono Lake.
