The group campsite and camp hosts are great. The reason for the 4 star, the water was not working due to a damaged line during construction of the dock. The bathroom was not working either. Although the portable bathrooms were brought in for "convenience" they were not vey close to the campground. The reason for booking this sight and paying extra, was for the perks of water, large campsite and bathrooms easily accessible. The group was family with 5 over 60 two of which were over 70.
The hosts did bring over 3 gallons of water, but, there were 8 of us. We were told we could drive to the campground, not far, and get more water. We'll that did not happen. A few of us had filters, so we filtered water from the beautiful lake or boiled it for coffee and dinner. Fortunately, two people had to drive to Crowley do get internet and brought back adult beverages a 6 gallons of water.
I'll book there next year, the group site is special, reminiscent of times when when campsites were large, it reminded us of backpacking. Through hikers came by, not an issue unless they tried to walk in the middle of our camp, minor inconvenience. Our furbabies enjoyed being outdoors and made friends with other furbabies on walking with their hoomans.
All that being said, we had a great time, hiking, fishing, laughing and eating.
Thank you to our camp hosts, Louis and his wife. They were nice and helpful. See...
Read moreI spent my childhood camping in rock creek canyon. Iris meadow and French Camp, campgrounds. When my mom was a kid in the 50's she, my uncle, grandma and grandpa camped in East Fork every summer. My mom's ashes were scattered at the lake in 1999. Now as a dad, I bring my daughter every summer to visit her; and to tell her stories about her grandma, my uncle and my grandparents adventures at Rock Creek. This canyon is the one family tradition which has transcended generations. My daughter when she was 6 caught her very first fish, from the exact same spot where I caught my very first fish when I was 9. I suspect there are many families who can tell tales of this place going way back, its really that... powerful, I guess. The canyon, like a container holding our most sacred relics. The stories I share with my daughter at the campfire, every year. In that canyon, I am home. Please take good care of it when you visit. It wasnt so busy 30 years ago when I was a kid. Please pick up your fishing line, nightcrawler containers and beer cans. Let the wind through the trees be the loudest noise we hear. Recognize that this place is very much alive. Know that for some of us who've seen and been through the worst of mankind, the peace found in this place is second to none. For me, it's the only place on earth where I can find what I need to face the things I've lived through. Tread...
