This trail is moderate and there are a couple different options and loops. The views are nice and the natural rock formations are very cool. However, this is not a great trail for small kids or dogs as it can be steep and rocky in some spots. At times it was very slippery with all the leaves on the ground. All of that is manageable, BUT...what isn't mentioned in any of the descriptions of this place is the fact that on one side of the woods is an active quarry and on the other side is a shooting range. During our entire hike, we could hear construction and/or gunshots, making it for a very stressful experience, especially for my dog. If I do re-explore this area, I won't be bringing the dog and I will have to plan for a time when the gun range...
Read moreThis is a good begginer/kid/dog-friendly hike. From the entrance on School St, where it turns into Southern Ave, the first loop (yellow trail to the red-trail-loop) is about 0.8 miles. Some rocks, roots, and mud with about 150 feet of elevation gain. There is a bald top in the loop with a fairly good view. Halfway around the red-loop, you can fork off onto the orange trail, which takes you further out to the blue-loop. Both loops together are about 2.2 miles.
