Excellent place to bring kids. The playground has a fence, so you know they can't run too far. The park facilitates imaginative play, with a ship and a small circle of houses. It's wheelchair accessible, and one of the swings has a roller-coaster style harness. There's also a sand pit, monkey bars, slides, and a couple picnic tables. The path connecting the various play areas is technically a loop, and can be used for running laps if the it isn't crowded. It's right next to the pond, so it's easy to observe the geese, and there's a bed of native flowers for those interested. For those without kids, there's a long trail that's good for walking or jogging when it's dry. There are benches placed at intervals, which is helpful if you're not up to long distances, have something stuck in your shoe, or just want to watch the geese at the pond. You can fish from the pond (although keeping said fish may require a Kansas Fishing license), and there's a small dock. Many people bring their dogs, and there are a few stations with bags so people can pick up their pet's poop. There are also bunch of sports fields and a gym that I haven't tried. You can walk here from any of the surrounding communities, but there are also...
Read moreSo many things wrong, I don't even know where to start. The softball fields, especially field 5 and 6, are in horrible shape in the outfield. Tons of holes, dips and divots, all just an ankle injury waiting to happen. The money they spent on their robot mowers could have been spend on bettering the fields. Scheduling for all events here is also horrible. There have been a few times where multiple events have been scheduled at the same time for the same field. For the soccer fields, there is next to no parking if they have an event on Thursday nights where there is adult softball happening at fields 1-6.
And the umpires, oh man. I swear they don't have any quality control when it comes to hiring anyone. If you can walk and breathe, you are hired. I've had a few great umps here but most are average at best. And some of them are just a joke. One of them didn't even know if home or away batted first. I am not sure what type of training the umpires go through, if any at all. I'm pretty sure they're just hired and told to go run a game with whatever knowledge of...
Read moreWas just kicked out while playing frisbee with coworkers on an unlit soccer field at 7AM by someone in a white utility truck stating he was a city employee but the park was private. I’m not sure who funds this park but if a city employees concerned that’s means my taxes. He said only the playground and pond are public and was pretty rude about the whole thing.
Edit: Just called city hall and they said that’s false you can reserve but don’t have to unless it’s part of the twin oaks...
