This was a cool stop on our color tour today. Pros: Huge old trees, many of which are labeled, (biggest ginko tree I've ever seen and giant sequoias!) beautiful view of the lake and stairs that lead down. Lots of picnic tables and benches. The property was once someone's home which makes it unique and interesing. There is a visitors book to sign in and restrooms. Cons: not very well maintained -signs are gone from some posts or signs are standing but no there isn't a plant that could be what the sign says (pecan tree sign next to a field??). Restrooms are locked (even though the place is open "sunrise to sunset"). A "clean up after your dog" station would be a nice addition. 3/5 of our group stepped in dog poo... seriously inconvenient. And yes, we were on the trails not off in...
Read moreWe went to see the 95 foot tall sequoia. The small driveways/entrances and signs easy to miss as farm is located near a curve in road. Park nearby, then it is a short, uphill walk to tree. There's lots of signage and a nice view of Lake Michigan at end of yard/park by outdoor fireplace and two picnic tables. There are lots of nice trees and it's clean. I didn't see restrooms or garbage cans. Dogs must be leashed. There is a bird area nearby for tours at dusk and extra parking across the street. Parking is free. A lady using a walker made it to the sequoia with help from relatives, but it is not handicap accessible. We spent 20 minutes or so there and enjoyed the views. The farm is under...
Read moreLoved the pollination garden by the house and the views of the beach and lake. However, the walking path was in desperate need of maintenance and the majority of the signage identifying the trees were either illegible or falling apart. One might think that would be due to lack of funds, so perhaps if there were not so many "no parking" signs, an overabundance of signs below the actual parking signs, and signs indicating where to go to see the giant sequoia, there would probably be funds available to repair the tree identification signs and to mow the pathways. Overall, the new owners should be...
