The absolute WORST experience I’ve have ever had. Purchased on Groupon what I thought was going to be an awesome first time experience for myself and my boyfriend. It turned out to be a nightmare. The ride to Greenridge Horse Ranch started out beautiful. But quickly turned into a horror film. Actually I felt as If was in the movie Wrong Turn. You know backbwoods West Virginia ! When we finally made it, it was quite a bizarre scene. It’s definitky not a ranch, but farm. Mud everywhere. Stables unkept. There were pigs, cats, goats, dogs, geese all just walking around mingling together. All dirty. Finally after standing around for well over 20 minutes a woman came out of the house. We sign a waiver and she went back in the house. Around 15 minutes later a guy came out. Just as we advised the lady, we also informed him it was both of our first times riding. He seemed to just blow us off gave us a horse, a brief over view of what to do if we wanted to go left/right/stop or slow down. Anyways. My horse was Paco. He obviously wanted to stay in the stable. He did what he wanted to. I told the guide but he said there were no other horses to take out and he’d be fine once he got on the road. After turning left out of the barn we traveled for approximately a mile and a half on a windy road. Lucky only two cars passed and managed not to collide into us. The guide was so far ahead he never noticed Paco had stopped and was heading back to the “ranch”. He then began to yell if you don’t turn him around and he gets back to the ranch he ride is over. Guess he never heard my yells for help. But then again I was only able to yell for him twice before the horse started to buck his head back every time I attempted to get the guide to stop. Eventually he came trotting back on his horse and by that time Paco had made a brief pit stop for a quick snack then headed into the “ranch” and toward his stable. Did the guide attempt to stop him? Nope. He said if I didn’t stop him my knees would be banged up from Paco going into the stable (which was barely wide enough for him to get into alone). Of course I thought about jumping off but was too scared at that moment. As I closed my eyes and prepared for the impact, Paco veered to the left went behind the stable and stopped briefly to admire the dirty goats. I then took the opportunity to jump off and run towards my car. The guide jut stopp their beside his horse smirking. Didn’t say one word. And you ask where was my bf at this time. Well his horse decided to keep going down the road and eventually stopped to graze on grass. As I pulled up he jumped off of the horse and we quickly left from the nightmare we had been trapped in for over an hour. I DONT RECOMMENT ANYONE GOINNG...
Read moreWas there this morning 10am ride for 1.5 miles. I'm horrible with names but they were very polite, especially since we were 20 minutes late. They paired us up with good horses, I got Peso a very well mannered fellow, who mostly followed my directing, I try to kick as light as the horse will respond.
My companion had difficulties with her horse, but it was because my companion wasn't following the simple instructions on how to use the stirrups to direct her horse, I stopped counting almost a dozen times of them explaining to her a handful of "How-To Drive Your Horse". Granted my companion was nervous, why I do not know since this was her 3rd time at this place and my first ride in probably 20 years.
Yes this is a rural place, it's an actual farm. The bathroom arrangements are very old fashion. Literally an out house with no door or roof. Just three sides to it. They have hand sanitizer. It really isn't as bad as you think, The bathroom is in a secluded place as well. I would recommend bringing some disinfectant wipes just in case you need to sit on the toilet.
The scenery is beautiful, we crossed a couple shallow creeks that come over the road, only 3 vehicles passed through since it is a gravel road used by the locals who live there to reach their homes. But it was safe, as each driver stopped to make sure they and us could all be safe. Some locals were out mowing their lawns and were friendly waving to us. A couple of the very friendly farm dogs followed along weaving in and out of the brush almost like scout dogs. These horses are very tame but as with humans if a bird flies out of a bush they are passing by it could startle them, so the dogs basically scared away any possibility of something like that occurring.
I would definitely go back...
Read moreIm editing my original review because i now know how she really is. Please do not contribute to this poorly ran establishment. The owner neglects all of the animals. Donations have been given through the years and she doesn't take care of the horses with those donations. She buys alcohol and other stuff with the money instead of horse feed. She also has been charged with equine neglect in Bedford County PA. She is not a legal non profit as she claims. She talks everyone the horses she has are rescues but that is also a lie. They need rescued.....FROM HER. She will come across as this sweet old lady but if you know her personally or get to know her, you'll soon see that she isn't who you thought she was. She will use you to her advantage and treat you horrible when you can't do what she wants you to do. Those poor horses are taking people on trails without proper feeding. They are overworked and under fed. She makes it out as if she needs donations to care for the horses and other animals there but truth is she gets donations for herself. Most of the viewers will know me and my husband as trail guides there. We had amazing reviews with our names mentioned. We took care of the horses and while we were there they received proper feeding and care. Within 8 month of us not doing rides, 4 horses died. Since then, many more have succumbed to malnutrition. All of the deceased horses were drug out back and thrown in a pile. They're remains can be found there. I'm tired of seeing animals abused and neglected and tired of seeing her scam people under false pretenses. PLEASE DO NOT CONTRIBUTE TO THIS...
