We love Derthick's Corn Maze!! Even though we are very busy with our own harvest season during the fall, we make it a point to carve out a day to come up for a day of family fun at the maze.
Between the bucking cow ride, archery, air cannon, yard games on steroids, corn box, slides, animals, hay bale playground (our kid's personal favorite), and more, there's enough to keep a family entertained for a whole day without ever even stepping foot in the maze itself.
The maze itself is nothing short of incredible though! The amount of work that goes into creating such a mega-sized masterpiece is huge, and they do such a good job of keeping it nice (though I know some people baulk at not being allowed to crash through the cornstalks that took all season to grow 🙄). I know from talking to the family that each individual corn kernel is precision planted into the shape that they have chosen, which is REALLY cool, and I love that the corn gets harvested at the end so that you can have a working farm that is fun and creative, but also functional and hopefully profitable.
We are real cheapskates 😅, so we never indulge in the zip lines or other add-on activities, but for what you pay to get in, you get more than enough bang for your buck!
Last but not least, Derthick's Hill is the highest point in Portage County, and the incredible view of the beautiful fall colors from the top of the hill this time of year is just breathtaking. Mr. Derthick once told me that on a clear day you could see all the way to Lake Erie from the top of his silo! Though they clearly cannot allow customers to climb the silo, I would love to see the view from the top some day.
I know that their last weekend is coming up shortly, so be sure to check out this aMAZEing farm before they close...
Read moreI have been coming to a derthick for many years for the Fall festivities and live quite close. This year was EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTING. Firstly, they didn’t even grow pumpkins? I look forward to pick my own pumpkin every year. I didn’t see any remnants of sunflowers like they had last year which was nice. The pumpkins they bought from elsewhere that I purchased were medium sized and $25 for two😲. Those prices are much much much higher than years past! The “hay ride “ that is extra didn’t even have hay in the carriage. And the route that was driven was quite boring since there was nothing farm like to drive thru. The hay bale rolls were much less than last year, so it wasn’t as fun to run across such a small area. They had the usual food 🙄. The usual slide which is now super crowded. The usual air cannons. The farm animals. I don’t remember how much it was to get in but it wasn’t cheap. Maybe 12$ a person, then extra for “hay” ride. Despite it being down the road, I will not go back next year. Was a complete waste of time and money. I could have a better time in my...
