The Mule Ears viewpoint at Big Bend National Park is a fantastic stop for anyone looking to enjoy stunning desert landscapes and iconic rock formations. Named for the two prominent spires resembling mule ears, this spot is a photographer’s dream and a perfect place to take a break from the road.

The parking area is spacious, so finding a spot is never a hassle, even during busier times. From the parking lot, you’ll be treated to incredible views of the Mule Ears themselves, framed by the rugged beauty of the Chihuahuan Desert. The panorama is especially magical during sunrise or sunset, as the colors of the sky and landscape create a breathtaking backdrop.

If you have more time, the nearby Mule Ears Spring Trail offers a closer look at this unique formation, leading you through scenic terrain with opportunities to spot wildlife and desert flora. Even if you’re just stopping for a quick photo, the tranquility and beauty of this spot make it well worth the visit.

The Mule Ears Viewpoint in Big Bend National Park, Texas, USA is a remarkable point in the Chihuahuan Desert. This area is a geological wonder with the mountains, valleys, desert pinnacles and nearby canyons. The nearby trail features Christmas Cholla cacti (Cylindropuntia Leptocaulis) with ripe, red fruit as the name would suggest, during the Christmas season. There are also other interesting cacti unique to the Chihuahuan Desert such as Texas Rainbow Cactus (Echinocereus Dasyacanthus). The entire national park is a serene, scenic part of the Southwestern USA that many...

It was hot, we packed extra drinks and were greatful we did! Loved the lava rocks, and so much wonderful nature to see on this hike! The spring had bugs we have never seen before, like a huge bright red dragonfly! We played with the pictures like the ears were ours and the end viewpoint makes your aching legs feel worth it. Also, don't forget to look down- geodes in the rocks & TONS of crystal! Magic. Beautiful. A...

Great viewpoint and stop along the road. Good for enjoying the view, stopping for a picnic or just a rest. Also the beginning of the trail closer towards the Mule Ears, into the desert springs. There should be more than enough parking spaces.
