We had friends in town visiting from Wisconsin, so we wanted them to experience some of the Hill Country wineries. We live in the Lakeway area & were looking for something close, so we visited Stone House Vineyard & Spicewood Vineyards. Both came recommended & had great reviews.
We first visited Stone House Vineyard & were thoroughly pleased & impressed. Friendly staff, offered a variety of food plates (not just the typical hummus dip or cheese board) & it had absolutely beautiful grounds & views. The wines were delish (we ended up purchasing 8 bottles of wine) & the atmosphere was thriving with lots of couples & parties enjoying the vibe.
Afterwards, we headed to Spicewood Vineyards. The reviews couldn't be farther from the truth.
The grounds were not nearly as well kept, lush or pretty as the Italian-like landscape of Stone Village. We did not see any food offerings & the winery had only two other couples visiting/partaking. But moreso, the staff was extremely curt & not friendly whatsoever.
At one point, the woman assisting us unapologetically cut me off mid-sentence to ask if I was going to get anything to drink. She was even more rude to our out-of-town friends. Our friends had purchased a wine tasting & wanted to purchase an additional glass of wine. The woman looks at her & says, "you have to be ready to go when we're ready to go". There was still 20 minutes til the winery closed. Our friends said fine, we can finish a glass within 20 minutes & she says, "what do you want?" And then aggressively (& begrudgingly) poured the wine, clanking the wine bottle into the glass almost knocking it over.
We were not impressed with the wine at Spicewood Vineyards (we did not purchase any bottles) & were sad to have left the previous vineyard that we all enjoyed so much.
Perhaps our visit was soiled by the one sour woman assisting us, but I would not recommend...

Stopped by Spicewood for a “member’s wine pick-up” this week… good time! We arrived a bit late, so the cheese/fruit/nuts/crackers trays were a bit picked over, but it’s free food… LOL It was good. People had started to leave, so we were able to land primo seats on a patio. The staff are always friendly and nice! The wines are good, some of the estate vines are coming into their own. A fun and festive place, recommend stopping by… you’ll be a member before you know it!

Spicewood Vineyards is a very good TX winery, located in Spicewood, TX, a stone's throw from Dripping Springs, TX. We went on a Sunday, our first event at the winery, the 16th annual chili cookoff, and boy what fun it was. The winery location is beautiful, "out in the country" with beautiful views and a creek that runs right through the property. The wines are good, slight edge to the reds over the whites. The tempranillo is very good, as well as the Bordeaux-style red blend. On the white side, viognier was the star. Very friendly staff, even though the place was a zoo! Kids and pets welcome here! We liked it enough to join the wine club! The only suggestion for events of this type, have serving lines for members, that would be an extra little perk for those who have chosen to join the club! Recommend...
Read moreCameron was amazing! Great somm, informative and kind. He was accommodating even though they had a private event going on and were technically closed to the public. Super sweet person. On the other hand, some employees at Spicewood Vineyards should be taught to speak the truth in kindness when they are closed for a private event. The wine world brings people together who appreciate the hard work that goes into creating every single bottle of wine. There should not be any room for rude people in this realm and it should be the first thing that is taught to all employees. Those that don’t understand should choose a different career instead of being a horrible representation of the owner’s vision, which I’m sure was not intended to be that. Overall we still loved this place, the wine was great. It was the first vineyard we visited in Texas and we hope that we continue to find the southern hospitality that we expected at...
