Merritts Mill Pond — Attraction in Marianna

if you luv fishing?....come visit me, in BAKER, FLA. i will take you 59 miles east on I-10, to the home of the state & world record "SHELLCRACKER"(redear sunfish).....MERRITT'S MILL POND / don't settle for anything less, what started as a group of 7, crystal clear springs, located just south of the ALABAMA line, with all, but 2 flowing in to HOLMES CREEK, and as legend has it, because of the purity of the water, has the best, MOONSHINE, in the SOUTH?(the map shows, quite a few homesteads, along the creek, but NO access roads??...the other creeks, form MERRITT'S, and two unsuccesful attemps to dam & build a grist mill, slowed the flow to a point, it became a pond loaded with PHOSPHATE, that fertilizes the fish, to become 3 times bigger than NORMAL *(you should see the BASS) DAVID...

We had to basically idle from the rv resort boat ramp to the spring. The grass has grown up to within 12” of the surface and the algae and gunk is holding on top of the water. It only partly clears up when you get near the entrance to the spring, very little place to swim in surface clear water. We won’t do it again, people we spoke with said it’s been getting worse over the last 3 years. They drained it and killed all the grass...
