For a not so far off the beaten path park, yet away from the city this nicely kept park is a little hidden gem. You can camp overnight with the proper permits available at the self pay station. Day use is FREE! They have really nicely kept picnic areas spread throughout the park and really clean Porto potties at most picnic sites that were stocked up with toilet paper and hand sanitizer. Now, if your expecting a grandiose landscape and beautiful mountain terrain it can be a lil disappointing. However, the desert has a beauty of its own that any outdoors person can appreciate so just be sure to fire up your Chevrolegs.... and hike around the area on its well marked trails. If that's not enough, just down the road you can find plenty of state trust land to venture on. Just be sure to purchase the proper permits to be out on this ground, it's very affordable and give you access to literally thousands of acres to enjoy. One last note, ok maybe two last notes, there appeared to be a large structure for a multiple family and friends get together and bring some trash bags to cart your stuff back to a trash can, as the park doesn't have a place for garbage to go. A real gem, easy to miss, but a wonderful place for peaceful secluded dry camping. Beautiful views of the mountains, natural desert beauty, lots of mature saguaro and miles of hiking trails throughout the park.

I love how most of the sites are far away from each other, but they have some closer together for groups also. very clean and some of the sites have immaculate Porta Jons between October and Easter. There are 24 sites and almost all of them are pull-thru. Every site has a shaded picnic table and BBQ.

The park host mentioned that the hiking trails are being redefined, most of which are completed. There are 2 horseshoe pits Near the group Ramada, and if you catch the park host, they will give you horseshoes to play with. This area also doubles as a large off leash area for dogs.

The noise from Hwy 8 is minimal. Only 15 minutes from Maricopa, and a 7 minute drive from the famous Dwarf Car Museum. A must see if you happen to find yourself in the area between the hours of 9-4 daily.

For only $10 a night, even without utilities, you can’t beat it!
