Read moreThe Salmon River state forest is located on the borders of Colchester and East Hampton CT. Access may be gained by turning on to Gulf Road off of route 16 at the border of each town. All roads are gravel roads. There are charcoal fire stands in places. Although the Salmon River flows through the park it is very shallow and becomes more shallow as summer comes. There is a spring fed water fill location on the left as you enter the park. The park is generally clean and well taken care of. Across the street from this location is one of the few remaining covered bridges in Connecticut that has been authentic restored using the methods employed when it was first constructed. Avoid the park on the first week of fishing season as it gets over run by fishermen and isn't much fun for anyone else. The river is stocked with trout and is very enjoyable for people of all ages who love...

The spring water had a high iron content. The park road continues into the woods beyond the parking area, but we did...
