literally never going to stop talking about this place 🗺️⛅️ — — 📍Thorny Mountain Fire Tower in Seneca State Forest is a 53 foot tall fire tower available for rent in West Virginia. Built in the 1930’s, the fire tower slowly went out of use until 1988. It reopened in 2015 as a unique camping spot for those unafraid of sleeping in the clouds. #firelookout #firelookouttower #firetower #nature #outdoors #exploremore #getoutside #camping #campingtrip #firewatch #uniquestays #bucketlist

The most epic experience in the Eastern U.S. is in #AlmostHeaven West Virginia! @WVTourism Located in Pocahontas County, WV, Thorny Mountain Fire Tower is the ONLY fire tower in the Eastern United States you can sleep in. Trust me- if you’re adventurous at all, you’ll want to put this on your bucket list! I recently stayed here with @happilyeverexploring, and it was beyond epic. We were both in awe of the sunset and sunrise from 65 feet up! We also really enjoyed exploring around @pocahontascountywv. The outdoor recreation here is top notch! Some of our favorite stops included: -Beartown State Park boardwalk trail -@Cassscenicrailroad State Park -Droop Mountain Battlefield Tower (+ an Almost Heaven Swing) -Cranberry Glades (Bog Trail) -Falls of Hills Creek -@GreenBankObservatory ‼️Stay tuned for how you can WIN an overnight stay in the fire tower! 👉🏼Who would you share this epic experience with!? @West Virginia Tourism ##wvexplored##firepower##uniquestays##takemoreadventures#adventuretravel

This is a beautiful park. We stayed in cabin 8 (rustic cabins). This is several miles back nestled into the woods near the river. This is the best way to detox from the hustle and bustle of electronic connection. We happened to see the mountain laurel in full bloom and the rhododendrons coming into bloom. We saw lots of fawns and deer. The weather was off and on rain but we had plenty of time to do everything we wanted to do. We saw Ghost Pipes (wild flowers), many beautiful fungi, and many other natural beauties. The site and cabin were very clean. They come furnished with all pots/pans/utensils and dishes some that are for outside and some for inside. The wood comes with the cost of the camping. The latrine with the cabin was clean. There are 2 showers (free of charge) at the ranger station area. The staff are very knowledgeable about the grounds and the area. They are welcoming. I highly recommend Seneca State Park for people of all ages. Also the kayaks, paddle board, and row boats are free to use...

One of my favorite places to see Fall. Staying at the pioneer cabins was quite an experience. You get to experience cooking with a wood stove (some cabins also have a gas stove), lighting a gas light, and hand pumping water from a well. Despite no electricity or running water, I didn't feel like I was roughing it. You get plenty free woods from the shed, free hot water shower and internet at the headquarter (5 mins drive from the lake), and the beds are very comfy and plenty warm blankets even if you suck at keeping fireplace going at night (the wood stove actually functions better than fireplace). The view around the lake where the cabins located is very peaceful and scenic. However, the hiking trails in this state forest is generally difficult (either too steep, too muddy, too many spider webs, or too hard to find) and there is no...

The cabins are FILTHY , Dirty !!!!!!!!! One year later I can't get over the negative experience we had !!!!! Words just don't explain !!!! The cabins have bugs and FLIES ,and they are in desperate need of repairs !!! Trash ,pieces of trash stuck in the screens and walls to fill the holes , REALLY? Nasty! A large hole in the bottom of the screen door, anything (a snake) could of crawled in!! The top of the stove had a inch of grease on it ,as if someone had cooked directly on the stove and left it, I couldn't use the stove because of the grease (Fire hazard)!! I tried to clean it off but do you really want to do spring cleaning on your vacation??? Nasty, DIRTY, NEGATIVE DARK ...?? Word won't describe ,.. I know one year later it's still a dark depressing feeling when I think about it ,.. NEVER AGAIN ,...
