Some of these reviews made me a little nervous about the hike up, and maybe that made it more tolerable, but I thought it was pretty pleasant. Yes there were so many stairs, but lots of benches and pretty forest along the way, and informative signs about Sugarloaf.

We parked at the gravel parking lot which I believe means we took the "improved trail" but that was all pretty confusing to decipher so I can't be totally sure. The only problem I had was that at a certain point the one and only trail marker we saw seemed very... ambiguous with the directions it was pointing and what exactly it was pointing at. However, we just kept following the most upward-looking path and made it up just fine.

Absolutely incredible views,...

We took the "difficult" way up the mountain. It was rugged trail with no stairs most of the way up. It really wasn't too bad, other than just needing to pay attention to where you were stepping so that you didn't step wrong and twist your ankle. It took us quite a long time to get to the top because I'm not in the best shape and needed to stop. But once we made it, it was quite the sight to see. On the way back down, we took the "easy" way, which was almost all stairs. While this was easier, it would've been more difficult for me going up I think because of the amount of stairs. Dress according to the weather. Wear good shoes. Bring some water with you. There was a nice observation deck at the top...

A lovely short hike with an incredible 360 view!! If you take the "easy" route, it's a little less than .7 mi each way from the North parking lot (slightly closer if you park in the South lot). It's a mix of a forest hike and a stairmaster 🤣 (about 300 steps - broken up into several 30-50 step sections. When you get to the pole that says "Easy/Difficult", you'll see 2 sets of stairs. Take the one on the right to get to the monument and 360 views (the one on the left doesn't really go anywhere or have as good of a view). Takes 20-40 mins to go up, depending on how good your stair climbing legs are and how many of the signs you want to read on the way up. Note: there's no restroom at...

Really fantastic overlook. To the north and east you've got the coast and Superior and several islands. To the south and west... trees forever. Probably a pretty cool place to view a sunrise or sunset. The hike from the lot almost due south was about a mile or so round-trip, a little shorter than if you park at the lot a little more to the north/west along Big Bay Rd. Several flights of stairs to climb, but generally painless. Fun fact we learned at the top: the obelisk is a monument to Bartlett King, an assistant scoutmaster who helped establish the local troop, which claims to be the first Boy Scout troop in the US. He died fighting in WWI, after which the troop constructed the memorial.
