Came here for the first time. At first I worried about not being able to see what everyone comes to see and that is wild creatures especially gators, but luckily, we saw a few wild gators, mostly little ones and 1 larger one. We also had a pack of raccoons and an old Indian cemetery. I was more excited about finally seeing a wild bald eagle. I’ve only seen them on TV or in a zoo lol. Our tour guide, Ian was very knowledgeable and did an amazing job informing us of some of the history of this private swamp we were traveling through. He had props that we got to handle to include a tiny little gator. It was an experience my family and I will cherish.
Ian is very friendly and knowledgeable. The parking lot is small. They have a little gift shop that has some cool little souvenirs. They have restrooms right outside the ticket booth and a little area where you can see a baby gator and snapping turtle. I got my tickets on Groupons and it was saved us a lot of money so I’d recommend looking through that app. Use the Groupon Redemption code and call this company to book the dates and time you want. Just make sure to come early before the boat leaves...
Read moreWe were on the Bus with Melissa Rose(clarifying a few of her comments from her review 😅) . Her bus wasn't late, pick up time is specified between 1020-1050, we pulled up to their hotel at 10:38. The bus driver wasn't rude, he asked her name to mark it off the list and she mumbled it while walking away and he had to ask her to say it again. She barked at him and her partner had to tell the driver ( at least he was friendly) Melissa's comment when she sat down was "old geezer". The music wasn't overbearing. We sat second row from the back and we could hear the driver and the CB radio chatter clear as day, she put her headphones in. As a non smoker, there was no smell of cigarettes on either bus and plenty of room at the tour location to move away if you need to. The store is really reasonably priced, we ended up doing the tour on a rainy day, and ponchos were $3.50. Alligator jerky sticks $2.50.
We had an amazing tour (and thankfully Melissa wasn't on our boat). Our guide was super knowledgeable and interactive. A must do when...
Read moreOur guide had only basic knowledge of the local wildlife. He would say, “Look, a turtle” and just continue on. It seems like they are mostly focused on helping you see the biggest gator possible. He got in the water with the tame gator and spread the lie that gators like human interaction… of course they like humans when they are fed daily.
The gators and raccoons are fed marshmallows so they come right out to the boats so there is a 99% chance you will see these semi-domesticated gators on your tour. The Louisiana Dept. of Wildlife and Fisheries advises against feeding alligators. It’s illegal to feed gators in Florida so that should show how unethical it can be. They also keep a baby gator in a tiny box which they let you touch at the end of the tour.
The swamp is beautiful and it was great to explore it from the water. The area is loud with airboats from multiple companies. The price is hard to beat. If I were to go again, I would do more research beforehand and choose an eco-tour for...
