It's an absolutely beautiful serene place. Port Townsend is just across from you as you watch the Ferries commute back and fourth with Mount Baker in the distance standing majestically against the clear blue sky. The history of the fort as you explore what Fort Flagler has to offer. Sea lions slapping the water with their tails as they play in the puget sound not to far from your campsite or maybe right next to your site depending on which you choose. Plenty of hiking trails and the choice of two boat launch sites. A large fishing dock to either moor your boat, fish from, or just sit and soak up the the serenity of the surrounding scenery. Or maybe you just want some solitude to do your tai chi or meditation on the beaches that surround the state park.It has an onsite store that offers just about anything you meant to pack but left behind along with a menu of food, ice cream and even coffee and espressos that you can enjoy while sitting at any of the picnic tables just outside with one that even offers table checkers. It also sells firewood for your evening fires that I'm sure you and your friends and family will sit around as you stare at the fire or gaze at the countless stars above. The immense pleasure of watching the daily sunset where it seems you can reach out and touch the sun as it sinks on the horizon. You'll appreciate the very clean restrooms and friendly staff as well. Whatever it is your looking for, Fort Flagler is the place you want to visit at least once in your lifetime during you...

Fort Flagler state park in Washington state is one of our favorite campgrounds to visit every year. It is so popular that it is nearly impossible to get a campsite (at least for an RV) during the summer prime months. You may get lucky if you check the reservation system often and happen to catch a cancelation. There are two campgrounds, one upper and one lower. The upper campground is more suited for tent camping even thou you may be able to get a small trailer/RV in a few spots and they are not full hookup. The lower campground has hookups and is best suited for RV/trailers. Our favorite campsites are the ones on the waterfront. You can sit and take in all the activities on the water, beach and watch the sunsets from your site. The park is located on an island directly across the bay from Port Townsend WA. The sunsets over the Olympic mountains and bay never get old. State ferries come and go between Port Townsend and Whidbey Island and large ships travel the waters all day long. There are plenty of sites to explore like the historic gun placements, buildings, and trails within the park. Take a day trip over to historic Port Townsend and Fort Warden (Where Officer and a gentleman movie was made). This campground is an easy drive for a day trip from the Seattle area or even better to spend some time with the family. Make your reservations early if you plan on camping here....

What an amazing place! The scenery is incredible and there's so much history here at the main park. There is camping and day use, but the real attraction to me is the old military base here. Ft. Flagler was built up over 10 years starting in the late 1800's meant to protect Puget Sound. The fort includes a costal defense made up of short and long-range artillery batteries, a barracks, officer's quarters, and other features that have long since been removed or repurposed. I was here on a retreat with FGBMA. Most of the base is intact including the remains of the coastal defense batteries. You take a 3/4 mile walk from the barracks to the batteries, (very beautiful). On a nice day its amazing. Sadly, the guns are long gone (save 2 at the entrance of the park), but you can explore the underground battery bunkers where the powder and shells were kept, the remains of the shell and powder-handling equipment the gun crews used to load and service the artillery pieces. There's even the remains of the forward observation bunkers where soldiers watched for enemy ships. It's one of the gems of the Puget Sound area. You can get a guided tuor, but there are informational boards everywhere to help explain things. Plus, use your imagination! I give this place an A+ definitely a must-see if you're a military history buff or just love...
