First of all the cave has not collapsed or been closed off, its very accessible if you know where you are going and are not claustrophobic. It is a cave that does not have tour guides, so one should use caution when venturing inside. Always bring a headlamp and/or flashlight and a back up one as well, and extra batteries,if your light source fails while down there, finding the way out would be near impossible. Personally I bring a hand cranked flashlight along, that way I donât have to rely on batteries. Leave your backpack outside, unless youâre prepared to continually take it off and drag it behind you, many places you canât fit through with one on. The map in the photo section is pretty accurate, but does not give you an indication of how tight it can get in there. I have been through this cave countless times over the last 30 or so years, and as of yet never had any problems, and those that use their head and some common sense will not have any either. People have had to be rescued from inside many times, so if you doubt you can squeeze through a narrow opening, donât even risk it. Never go in alone, watch your step and your head, bring light source, headlamps are ideal for that way your hands are free, a backup and extra batteries. And please donât trash the place, clean up after yourself, if you bring it make it leaves with you! Be safe...
Read moreThis place is awesome! Located I Pequea, PA, wind/cold cave should be on your list of places to visit. Don't be fooled by the main entrance and short loop that takes you in and you quickly. If you spend a little extra time your find all sorts of rooms and places to explore.
Unfortunately, there is a lot of trash and graffiti in the cave. It is clear that kids use this as a party slot occasionally. We packed some of it out.
A cool feature is the temperature in the cave and the cool wind that flows from the entrance of the cave. It is colder than most caves, with temperatures in the 30s vs 50s.
Safety deserves a special mention. Due to the temperature and the distance you must hike to get to the cave, special attention should be paid to the risk of hypothermia. This is a self guided cave and your own safety is your responsibility. Make sure you let somebody know when you're going in and when you are expected to return. There are some places that, people like myself, might Winnie the Pooh in. Wear a helmet. Take more than on light source, and spare batteries. Pack a first aid kit and a lunch or snack.
The cave is well worth the visit. Spend a few hours exploring, and say "hi" to the two huge black snakes that live near the...
Read moreIt seems like street parking is limited so better get there early. The hike to the cave was slightly uphill, be careful and take your time as the path is next to a slanted hill. We proceeded into the wind cave, it was dark and rocky, there are spots where you need to maneuver up and down certain rocks. I had thought there are multiple entrances and exits , but ended up at a narrow pathway that is just about 20 inches apart wall to wall , so we followed the arrow marks and retreated back out of the same entrance. Took some pictures and enjoy a nice break outside the cave. The downhill hike back to the car was easier but we had to take caution and constantly slow down . It was a great one time experience, although not...
