Was here for the Maryland Wine Festival in September 2023. This used to be THE winery event to attend to get your wines in front of people, and the place would be packed for 2 days. This year, they changed it to 1 day. There were only 12 wine vendors for general admission entry and 12 for the VIP tickets (explorer pass). The place was barely half full. There were more artisans than wineries there this year peddling their junk. This also used to be 16+ for DD and no kids. Kids were all over the place this year, and there's NOTHING for a toddler to a teenager to do here. So after 2-3 hours, there were screaming kids who wanted to go home because they were bored.
This was really disappointing this year. They need to stop the 2 entries, find a ticket in the middle and let everyone in everywhere to sample and buy. They need to get it back to being THE event to attend by the wineries. Get the mom and pop wineries here again. Get cideries and meaderies in here too. Minimize the peddlers and go back to no kids. If it's this bad again in 2024, this Festival will be done because it is no longer worth it. Move it to the spring when the wineries aren't...
Read moreThis is a great family friendly place to go for the 4th of July, as well as, other summer occasions. There is a $5 entry/parking fee and parking is plentiful. When we arrived, there was a gentleman with the cutest little monkey that will take a dollar from your hand and then sit on your shoulder for a picture with you. There are food venders selling homemade barbecue and fresh-squeezed lemonade, craftsmen and their masterpieces to peruse, museum buildings and garden from an earlier era, different musicians to entertain throughout the day and picnic tables and grounds to enjoy. Bring your own chairs and blankets to sit in the shade of the trees, your own picnic food (if you would like) and a ball to play catch with family/friends and spend the day. Restrooms are located at the entrance. The 4th of July promises a spectacular display of fireworks! Bring a flashlight to see...
Read moreVariety of Functions at a restored farmhouse ...the Steam Show suffers since the powers to be won't allow a Steam Engine or Engines to travel around the Grounds! RIDICULOUS !! The Steam Show now has NO Steam Engines operating. Hit & Miss Engine are set up but no real large engines - as in the past ..... Whoever's behind this decision has No Sense of History. Carroll County is rich in Agriculture History .... Attendance is down and the Grounds are filled with enthusiastic types that are struggling with poor management decisions. Rather have a wine festival and promote their version of " farming" .... Laughable if not so Sad ....Steam Engine Show without even 1 Steam Engine. Business now goes to Baltimore County the following week!! Why not have a wine festival without tastings ??! Same mindset. A once great show has been reduced down to a shadow...
