Took an hour long boat ride across the bay this past (Independence Day) weekend, and tied up at the owners dock (it may feel a little shady as the dock really goes up to the house and not the tasting room, but the owner assured me boats are more than welcome to tie up.) The property is nestled up against the Cox River, and provides some great views. There is seating available on a deck outside the tasting room with umbrella covered tables, as well as adirondack chairs scattered around the property, all with great views of the vinyard and water. As it was a hot day, and we still had a boat trip back to the Western Shore ahead of us, we chose to sit inside the air-conditioned tasting room. We arived about an hour after opening and stayed until closing, and the tasting room was surprisingly slow for a holiday weekend. I believe there were at most 8 other groups come in and out over the time we were there. Meat and cheese plates were available for purchase, but we actually brought our own spread. The tasting went wonderfully, even with the owners having to split time between between multiple tables, which actually worked out well as we didn't feel rushed to get through all the samples. As fans of dry reds, our group was most struck by the lineup of whites. We're all of the "we know what we like but can't exactly tell you why" type of wine drinkers, so you might not want to take our word for it, but the whites certainly offered something much different than I'm used to getting. The red offerings were also good, but all seemed that they certainly could benefit from some additional cellaring time. Our group had a great time, and we would have no qualms about...
Read moreNice for a ladies day out in which we did on Saturday October 10, 2020. When we arrived it was a tad bit busy, but we were able to get seating for the seven of us. ED was our host and just was not pleasant at all. He gave us the first 3 tastings out of 8 with no details regarding each sample. We also asked for a cheese plate in which he stated they had no more plates. At this point we were annoyed and not feeling welcomed. With everything going on in the world, we wanted to get away and enjoy a great day because from the reviews it said that everyone was friendly and informative. Well Ed tainted that experience we all wanted to have. The next couple of tastings Mark came over to finish and was very informative and fun. He was engaging with us and gave clarity regarding the wines. Thanks Mark.!!! We did finally enjoy the rest of the tasting, but a little note to Mark the owner. MR ED need a little more consumer service training and need to give clarity of the wine, not just pour and walk away. Other than that , the view and scenery was everything. Thanks again...
Read morePretty winery situated on the tip of Kent Island. The gentleman in the tasting room, presumably the owner, is personable and a wealth of knowledge about the wines and the grape varietal origins. The woman, though nice and honest, bluntly told us she's usually in the vineyard working and not working as a waitress. She also told us she usually hates some of the wines she was pouring for us. Umm, great advice there.
The tasting options are cheap and consist of either 4 or 8 - 1oz pours. The viognier was the best out of them all, which isn't saying much. The chardonnay and sauvignon blanc tasted burnt; the rosé was very dry and tart; the 2 Queen Anne wines literally taste like crab holding tank water; and the Tannat was a typical cab.
Odd, too, that the youngest wine available is a 2019 vintage. Makes me wonder if they are just trying to get rid of old stock.
We wish them success in the future, but we...
