GREENBRIAR LAKE, near Cunningham falls in the Catoctin mountains is beautiful year round especially in the spring and song. And in summer time it's even better because you can go swimming. Now that I am an adult I'll have to take my family there and make new memories and build them upon price on memories from when I was young. As a child, half a century ago, we visited this place constantly. Even though the neighborhood where I lived was a half an hour away and had a brand new pool this was an alternative that was primarily safe and fun State Park where you can swim, hike, and feast on our favorite fruits (since Mom and Dad always packed a Yogi Bear style picnic basket) in the Sun or lay in the shade all sweet Summer's day long. Be best to Google some rules and regulations cuz I'm sure things have changed and got a little stricter but if I recall everything there (food, beverages, sunblock, calamine lotion, etc.) is at a higher price (for convenience) so it's best to bring your own and never bring glass bottles especially those that contain alcoholic beverages. This being a state park and such a beautiful geographical location are gorgeous planet Earth remember to preserve your memories by ONLY SHOOTING VIDEOS, ONLY TAKING PICTURES & ONLY LEAVING FOOTPRINTS. Please do police your litter "Give a hoot and don't pollute" (Woodsy Owl). "Only you can prevent forest fires."...
Read moreIt's a clean lake and well maintained from what I can see. I've been there twice, both to fish with the kids. The pathways and area are nice and it's not too crowded. I have not visited the campsites, however, so this is just a reflection of the lake area.
The Cleanliness is important here because you have to take your trash out with you, so that means that the people who visit generally follow this instructions and the staff does a great job to compensate for the people who doesn't.
The trails around the lake are well maintained.
the only Negative I have is that they charge per person and not per vehicle. As far as I know, this is the only state park that does that.
Current rates are: 3 per person in-state 5 per person out of state.
It doesn't stop me from...
Read moreI love this this place! A great place to sit by the lake and eat lunch, take a hike to the falls, catch trout fly fishing or bass!
The park is generally clean, but our last visit we did notice that the portable bathrooms were very dirty.
The temperatures are always a little cooler than Frederick so it a great place to visit in the summer.
I really want to go camping for a few days...
