The park is well-maintained (including the bathroom) and because there is no tree cover, a good option for walking when other paths or trails are still snow-bound.
I'm deducting stars because of the creepy experience I had tonight with an I guess security person driving around in an official-looking truck. Despite the fact that it was over an hour until closing, he accosted me and demanded repeatedly to know where my car was. I guess he felt that because the sports crowd had cleared out, I shouldn't be there either. He appeared to be upset that he couldn't close the parking lot.
I regret even answering his question of where my car was parked (the upper lot). It was truly inappropriate of him to even ask. Staff should be trained to be more friendly to the public, not to mention not to assume they can close early. Asking me if I needed any assistance would have been fine (I didn't). I had the right to walk the path up until closing.
When I reached my car, his truck was in the lot running and parked, obviously waiting for me. Very upsetting and stalker-like. I doubt I...
Read moreThis was my first visit to the new park in Frederick County. Although only phase one has been completed and opened, it is full of amenities. There are multiple ball fields, a huge playground, lots of parking, large clean restrooms and spacious picnic shelters with barbecue grills. There are plenty of places for walking the dog including a boardwalk across the wetland area. Sign boards along the trail provide some history of the area . Clean up bags are provided for pet waste. The rear of the park provides a multi use, natural surface trail system for bikes and equestrians (about 2 miles). This trail systems is open from April 15th to December 15th. A large gravel area allows for parking and turn around of horse trailers. I hope that they will provide picnic tables in the equestrian area in the future. Once Phase 2 of the project is completed, the park will include about 214 Acres and a community center will be...
Read moreThere is a designated dog park and many people will walk their dogs along the trails as well. The dog park is large. There are no obstacles or other "fun' things. It just a large open grass park. The grass is always cut low. There are two benches to sit on. The nearest water station is near the playground and does have the low dog bowl filler. But there should be one in the dog park itself IMO. There are doggie bags for use and trash cans. Really tall fence. Some holes in the ground so be careful if you're running around out there with your dog. Overall it's OK if you want to bring a chuck it and throw a ball but not much else to do there...
