IF YOU HAVEN'T STOPPED BY NOW YOU PROBABLY WILL WANT TO AT THIS POINT. IF YOU'RE CONSIDERING TURNING BACK THIS IS THE PLACE TO DO IT. HANA HAS A NICE BEACH AND A BEAUTIFUL VIEW OF THE MOUNTAIN FROM IT, BUT I DIDN'T FEEL THE DRIVE WAS WORTH IT. HALFWAY TO HANA IS A GOD SEND FOR TWO REASONS: ALONG THE WAY YOU WILL SEE A FEW FOOD STOPS THAT MAKE YOU WONDER IF THEY SERIOUSLY THINK YOU WOULD EVER STOP TO EAT THERE IN A MILLION YEARS. IT'S A SCENE STRAIGHT OUT OF WRONG TURN OR TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE!! SECOND REASON IS THAT AT THIS POINT I WAS STARTING TO GET CAR SICK, WHICH I NEVER DO, AND NEEDED TO STOP. THIS IS A LITTLE COZY AND VERY WELL MAINTAINED FOOD STAND WITH A FEW TABLES TO EAT AT. THEY ALSO HAVE PORTA POTTIES. ONLY CON IS THAT THERE IS VERY LIMITED PARKING. PROS ARE ENDLESS CONSIDERING THE CONDITION I WAS IN AT THAT POINT.
THEY HAVE A LITTLE SHOT OF LIQUID SOMETHING FOR NAUSEA FOR SALE. DON'T KNOW IF IT ACTUALLY WORKS, BUT SERIOUSLY CONSIDER GETTING SOME. ALSO, UNLESS YOU ARE BENT ON PUNISHING YOURSELF A SECOND TIME...JUST CONTINUE DRIVING AROUND THE ISLAND TO COME BACK. I DIDN'T REALIZE THERE WAS ANOTHER WAY TO GET BACK AND WAS COMPLETELY SICK BY THE END OF MY LITTLE OUTING.
I SURVIVED THE...

Stopped here on the road to Hana. Aunty Sandy’s was closed but had read good things about this spot’s banana bread. Not much of a line, one couple ahead of us. For context, they were Caucasian, and I am not (my username is a giveaway). Lady at the register, older, 50s/60s. Very nice and chatty with the couple in front of me. They pay and head to the picnic tables to wait for their food. I step up, ask for banana bread, night and day difference in the customer service she offered me vs the other couple. Dismissive, no chatting, gestured to the banana bread (there’s no sign telling you “this is the banana bread”, and I was raised to not touch stuff that’s not yours…). Took my money and didn’t even say bye.
We left and for the next 15 mins sat in silence on the drive only to discover we were all wondering what, if anything, we did to rub her the wrong way. I felt compelled enough to write a review.
Be kind, it doesn’t kill you, and my money is as good...
Read moreI was disappointed because I read “aunty Sandy’s” in Ke’Anae peninsula was the best on the way to hana these days, but they were out at around noon!! So I remembered going to half way to hana in the past and it being good, so went there again. I have to say that the banana bread was amazing!! We always do Hana and around Kahekili hwy every time we go to Maui and we compare the banana bread, (its Julia’s banana bread on Kahekili hwy). I have to say that this trip has proven that half way to Hana is the winner! I am sure everyone has different tastes, and they are both great! But half way to hana is more moist and more dense. Julia’s is more of a pretty moist and really good regular banana bread, just not quite as dense, or good. Don’t get me wrong, they are both great! But half way to hana wins it for our taste!! I could...
