This is a gorgeous piece of real estate! If you are headed to Hana, I'd definitely recommend stopping here. The narrow road leads to a dead end, but there's lots of open space to park and enjoy the views. Though there are no shops, restaurants, snack stands, or even a sandy beach, it's the heavenly coastal scenery and natural beauty that you need to experience. The peninsula is dotted with a few private homes, taro patches, a church, and open fields.
TIP: Respect the privacy of the residents and their peaceful surroundings. Also, the taro patches are on private land so don't just walk through them. Be sure to check out Aunty Sandy's (a banana bread stand). There is a nice photo op of the peninsula from Hana Highway above, with safe and paved parking.
OVERALL: It's a great place to relax, take...
Read moreA must stop in Maui for the views but definitely for Aunty Sandy's Banana Bread. Make sure they aren't closed when you visit because that is the biggest bummer. We drove through on a Sunday and drat - they were closed!
The water here is so blue. It is stunning and makes for beautiful pictures. Especially if you can catch it on a sunny day. There is no swimming as the rocks are sharp and treacherous. It is a great place to enjoy a picnic lunch. Just remember to bring your own food on Sundays!
Also, make sure to check out the cute little Congregational Church. The peninsula has an amazing and sad tsunami history.
The peninsula is a popular spot, so parking may be a bit of a challenge during busy times. It is definitely worth the stop and one of the cooler places on the...
Read moreAwesome, crashing surf with huge waves due to big unseasonable swells from the north when we were there on 5/4. Beautiful, highly recommend. Be sure to drive (SLOWLY, please!) thru the cute little town past Auntie Sandy's banana bread stand (be sure to pick some up on your way in as she may sell out before you get back on your way out) and drive to the surfside parking areas near the point. It's worth it. Hopefully you'll be there on a big-swell day too! (Be very cautious of the waves and don't stand too close to the edge of the lava flows, where a sneaker wave could knock you down onto the extremely sharp rocks or even wash you off into water! On a rough day that would be a death sentence 😱) Enjoy but please be...
