Keokea Gallery — Attraction in Maui

Visiting the Keokea Art Gallery in Maui was easily one of the highlights of my trip. Not only did I get to admire some incredible art, but I also met the artist himself, Sheldon. Let me tell you, Sheldon is a total character. He’s got this awesome energy, and the stories he told me about his pieces had me hooked. Super funny, entertaining, and the way he brings his art to life with backstories makes you appreciate it on a whole other level.

Oh, and the t-shirts—don’t even get me started. I ended up buying this amazing horse-themed T-shirt that definitely doesn't say "I love horsies." Theres a backstory to every shirt, and each one is printed uniquely by Sheldon. Seriously though, the vibe of the place is just fun and laid-back, like you’re hanging out with a friend who happens to make killer art.

At first, I wasn't quite sure what this shop was. I did not know it was actually a gallery upon entering. However, after talking to Sheldon for a while, I began to understand him and his activist style of art. Through getting to know him, I decided to buy a couple of shirts and had him pick one out for me as well. The prices are fair. I wish I could have spent more time talking to him, but we had to run to Grandma's Café before catching our plane back home.
