I love this location. Great views for sunsets. Has shade areas. Great spot to learn how to surf on like a longboard style for beginners.
Has a nice lagoon for the kiddos restrooms, showers, some tables and grass areas as well.
Great views of islands of Kaho'olawe to the South, Lana'i directly across the channel and even a glimpse of Moloka'i to the right side if the park. I really enjoy this beach park early in the morning time, and or during sunsets, when the temperature is cooking down.
During noon, it can be very hot and humid depending non weather. Also if there are trade winds breezes or not.
Watch out for sharp rocks near surf breaks and near break walls. Maybe wear tubbies for newcomers.
Don't want to cut your feet and or possibly step on some Hawaiian Wana. (Pronounced Vah-Nah)
I recommend approaching from the left side of the Rock walls and the lagoon. Right side is very shallow. Especially during low tides.
Parking lot is typically a struggle to find parking. Have to come early in the morning prior to the lunch and afternoon crowds to find parking spots.
There is also another additional parking spot above the beach park across the street intersection.
Always recommend checking out the surf and the rip currents prior to entering any surf spots,/swim areas.
There are some times to see fish and turtles from time to time, to see but difficult to snorkel.
I do not recommend snorkeling. Too much sunscreen in the water during peak times.
Might even see a whale across the channels during whale season.
I know I have a long list of things to watch out for but I still enjoy and recommend this beach park if you ha d a chance and time to stop by and visit for...
Read moreThe counties dropping the ball on taking care of this beach park. Used to be the go-to place on the west side for , birthday parties, picnics, bar-b-ques, not anymore. Now all the green grass is brown. There's no more bathrooms. There's just porta potties and porta sinks. There is still.a shower but no more regular bathroom and changing room. It really sucks. All the places that the locals go to are being slowly not taken care of or else access is being denied and it sucks. In Haiku u cannot.drive to k bay since kamehameha schools bought the land, cannot go watercress, since development of the old pineapple field there are gates and locks-just like the Kalawai Cemetary lookout. At h poko they made the guardrails solid so cannot drive and park off Hana Hwy. And put barriers up on side of hey where u could park. They closed the guardrail on the Pali also between the lighthouse and the lookout where u could drive down and park off Honoapiilani hwy. It's happening all over Maui, and yes there are various reasons that are given it still boils down to access...
Read moreMy favorite beach of the 6 different ones we went to. We had older kids & adults that wanted to surf & boogie board and little kids that needed safe, smaller waves. This fit our needs perfect. There’s large rocks that make a small cove perfect for little ones and the older kids went outside of it and rode surf & boogie boards. A Hawaiian monk seal came in the cove and sun bathed on the beach, was so so special for us to see one so close. (We stayed the proper 50 feet away and were so thankful that most everybody respected that they are an endangered species) There were several sea turtles that came into the cove also. There are some smaller rocks on the shore but still plenty of sand to dig and play in. The grassy area isn’t super nice but wasn’t any big deal to wear shoes and sit on towels. Not food or restaurants near by but we just packed a lunch in a cooler bag. Very...
