Maui Animal Farm was such a fun and memorable experience! Heidi, the owner, runs the entire tour herself, and she’s incredibly friendly with great energy. I saw a review saying it felt a little disorganized, like walking into a messy house, but honestly let’s give her some grace here. Heidi is running this farm basically entirely on her own with minimal volunteer help, and I can only imagine how much work it takes to care for so many animals. Personally, I know I couldn’t do it so let's be more empathetic! And it wasn't disorganized at all in my opinion.
For $25 per person, you really get a lot out of the experience. You park in the driveway, walk up to the “barn,” and the fun starts right away. Since I arrived early, Heidi let me and other guests help feed the chickens and ducks, which was adorable. After that, we sat down and got to hold baby ducks, chicks, and bunnies, then met her main goats, Ben and Jerry. Everyone got lettuce to feed the animals, and Heidi was generous with it. If she noticed you ran out early, she’d happily give you more and encourage you to keep feeding, unlike some other places that limit portions.
We also got to brush the goats, pet a mini horse and donkey, and even interact with a pig. When do you ever get to pet and feed a pig, let alone spray it down with a hose? Toward the end, we met the tortoises, and Heidi let us pick up the baby ones for photos. Every part of the tour was hands-on and interactive.
Yes, you might get a little dirty walking around and petting animals, so don’t wear clothes you’re too worried about. Heidi does have a sink for handwashing afterward. There isn’t a snack shop on site, but she offers cold bottled water during a mid-tour break. We brought our own lunch to enjoy in the car afterward, which worked out perfectly. She also sells cute T-shirts, and I bought one to support her.
Overall, I think Heidi is doing amazing work. The tour was fun, affordable, and gave us so many special moments with the animals. She deserves way more credit and kindness than some of the other reviewers give her. If you’re in Maui, definitely go support her farm. It’s a unique and...
Read moreWe had a wonderful morning at the Maui Animal Farm! Heidi was very enthusiastic and gave us a wonderful tour of the farm. I would definitely recommend wearing tennis shoes and longer shorts or pants because it is rocky and dirty but well worth the special experience. Make sure to keep an eye on your little ones because of the rocky and sloped terrain. My 3 year old enjoyed feeding the donkey, mini horse, goats, and pig. She also got to hold a chicken and see many other animals! She really enjoyed the tortoise race! They are new to this location so we would love to go back and see how this farm continues to evolve. As a parent I appreciated the two hand washing stations and snack & drink break in the middle of the tour. She also hid some little farm sticker prizes for the little ones at the end. Very fun and memorable experience in a gorgeous location! Would definitely...
Read moreI haven't met anyone on the island of Maui that has more joy, kindness, and enthusiasm for animals than Heidi. She is such a gem. If you have little kids-- whether you live here or are visiting-- you absolutely MUST take them to the Maui Animal Farm. My two-year-old and four-year-old were absolutely delighted by their entire experience, and they still regularly talk about "Coco Chanel" and "Valentine" (their favorite bunnies). Also, when the tortoises were hiding instead of racing, Heidi insisted that we come back another time to see them race. We took her up on her offer a few weeks later and she was so incredibly gracious, creating an amazing sunset tortoise race (plus more bunny holding and animal feeding) at no charge. She takes such great care of her animals and is so wonderful with kids. We will definitely be back, and we urge anyone...
