Farris Memorial Park — Attraction in Mayodan

Park looks beautiful and is well maintained. Looking forward to the family reunion tomorrow, however...while checking out the setup today in preparation for tomorrow's reunion a super grumpy old man on a lawn mower came up to us and barked "you can't be here". No introductions, or hello, or good morning, just "are you with the power company?" and without a chance to respond (as we were obviously not with the power company) he barked you got to go. We tried to start a polite conversation to let him know what we were doing and that we weren't loading up to go when he barked over our explanation "you cant be here, leave". We packed and left with further incident as he sped off on his lawnmower. The gates were open and there were no signs displayed saying the park was closed, there is no need for such discourteous behavior. A simple good morning guys, sorry but this side of the park is closed would have reach the same conclusion without making us feel attacked. Good manners...

The park has several amenities but some are in need of repair. Putt putt course needs a lot of work, but the fishing docks look to be kept up nice. Didn't hike any of the trails so I can't speak on those. Baseball fields are in good shape but not a lot of mowing but possibly because of the fact that no one is playing team organized sports at this time in the area. Park would be a 5☆ once the restrictions are lifted and staff can continue back to work...but the young guy working the Sunday 9/13/20 my family was there was a very rude young man as he made an elderly couple move their vehicle where they were parked so they could easily access the restroom just so his lazy self could park his truck there! Park needs to get a better staff member than that young man if they want to...

This place is a beautiful spot to go walking. I my girlfriend and I take our dog walking here regularly. It is always a great time. There are many various trails to walk or ride a bike. There is also a rather large pond if you just want to relax and do a bit of fishing. The trails very from beginner to advanced on the bike trails and every single on are alot of fun even if you just walk them. I don't know how much the cyclist appreciate walking on those trails but we stay clear if any are around. There is only one slight downfall here. If there is a good amount of rain the entrance and parts of the trails are heavily flooded. These areas are easily avoidable and dont hinder you from taking other routes.
