This is the steeper of the two trails that take you to the falls. I would recommend that people not use this trail if you are not up to a challenge. There's a trail that starts just past the Last Chance Campground that is a much easier trail without the steeper terrain and will take you to the base of the west side of the falls. There is a path from this point that is steeper that takes you to the top of the falls, but watch for loose rocks and make sure where your stepping is solid. You will have to cross the creek a few times on your way to the falls, and because of this, it is better in late summer or early fall to hike this trail when the water in the creek is not as high or fast. It's a very peaceful hike through a few grassy meadows and thick forests, watch your footing crossing the creek it may look easy, but the quick moving water and rocky bottom of the creek make navigating a little tricky... so you very easily could get wet, but it is still well worth crossing the creek a few times. I have also seen a few of the wasps nests hanging from trees in this area. One was about 3 feet long, so try not to disturb them. They don't play nice. As always, leave it better than you found it, leave no trace,...
Read moreThis is our favorite hike in the McCall area. A few minutes drive outside of town and you get to enjoy the mostly shaded 1.6 mile hike to this incredible waterfall. The flow this time around was massive and it kind of made it difficult to get a good view from the bottom of the waterfall, but the view from the midway point more than made up for that.
If you're not a fan, or have mobility issues at all, you probably won't reach the base of the falls. It is a somewhat treacherous climb down the near vertical rock face. If you can do it the reward can be worth it I would recommend wearing shoes that can get wet or packing a pair with you. You can get a better view of the falls at the bottom if you are willing to wade out into the creek a little. Be careful though. The current can be super fast and the...
Read moreThis hike is downhill to the falls and uphill back to the trailhead. Once you cross the bridge on Goose Creek Trail head left for quarter mile. Another short trail to the left again takes you over to the top of the fall with no hood view. You then have to hike a pretty steep section of loose dirt and rock to the bottom. If you are not in great shape don't do it. At age 63 I went halfway down and decided to stop. Being by myself I did want to take anymore chances. I did get to see the fall from an angle but not straight on which would require going all the way down. Be...
