Strawberry Rock Trailhead — Attraction in McKinleyville

Stupendous view from the top! This hike is a metafor for life. You put in the hard work tredging thru mud uphill and are rewarded by being on top of the world. The mud is real in the rainy season but not impassable. When you get to the Rock outcropping, there is a rope to make it up the final part. If you are physically challenged or have a fear of heights, this is not the hike for you. In the past someone has taken🍄 and thought they had shape-shifted into a bird......This is not recommended......The view up there is majestic you can see all the way south to eureka, the trinidad head and north to stone lagoon. Pro tip : bring chocolate...

The end view is absolutely beautiful! The hike used to be really great but as of 3/13/2023 it's very difficult. Recent storms have knocked numerous trees down and if you don't already know the trail, you can't find it. You have to crawl through bushes and fallen trees pretty much the entire hike now. Decent workout, pretty much uphill all the way out, down all the way back. We took a wrong turn and added considerable distance to our trek, so we were out a little over 2 hours. The "rock" has knotted ropes to help the adventurous to the top; we abstained out of caution ( not 25 anymore!), still had an incredible view out...
