The world is a beautiful place if you know where to look. Great Falls Dam located in Rock Island, TN is a gorgeous area and located minutes away from Rock Island State Park. Fun Fact: Whitewater rapids below the dam are world-renowned for kayaking and canoeing and have hosted national and international paddling events.

I've never seen this amount of water coming out of a dam. They had to do a release after all the rain the day before we visited, so we weren't able to go down to the gorge floor or see the falls in the river bed as much as we'd liked but it was an awesome sight to see, and the area is beutiful!

Enchanted Forest atmosphere this dam is amazing! The dam works differently than other typical dam structures...it doesn't wall up the water. The water is realesed through tubes at the base of the structure.

When you hear the alarm you better get off the rocks and head to higher ground because those rocks will be under water very soon! People ignore the blasts to their peril and have to be rescued pretty regularly.

There's fresh water cress there for the taking!

Got to see the dam in all its glory. Rained a few days ago so the water was rally flowing. Because of that Great Falls was fuller than I have ever seen coming to the park. It's too bad you can't go over the dam, probably because I'm certain someone would find a way to fall off of it. But it would be great to see the water from that perspective. Otherwise it is nice to just sit and listen to the water rage on...
