Medfield State Hospital Campus — Attraction in Medfield

Huge, open campus great to just walk around, observe all of the historic structures, and take photos. Things to note before going: you cannot enter or really see into any of the buildings, there are no public bathrooms, and many people bring their dogs here off-leash. Although you can't enter the buildings, you can walk up the front steps and onto the porches of many of them. The chapel (the building with the clock tower and the arched entranceways with a big grassy area in front) was used as part of the hospital in the film 'Shutter Island,' so look out for that if you're a fan. You can park either at the entrance near the gate, or drive further into the grounds and park there as well. The grounds are well-maintained and clean (just look out for the occasional dog poop in the grass), and social distancing is easy even when the parking lot is full because the place is so sprawling. A few trails run through and around the property, including the Charles River Link Trail, and you can find a nice view overlooking the Charles near the parking area inside the grounds.
