Islamic Society of Brevard County — Attraction in Melbourne

Most of the people who attend are delightful and generally hospitable. However, the imams are rude, callous, and judgmental. What goes in one’s mind is no one else’s business; it is as simple as that. Whenever they encounter someone who is from a Muslim background, the imams/attendants berate them for not practicing the faith as the imams "understand it”, which is utterly infuriating given the multitude of divergent practices within even one sect of the religion. Even if you do everything they say, it is never enough! They want donations and obedience. When they have both, they want more. This is a problem common to almost every masjid I’ve been to. I don’t know why the heads of the masjids in particular judge people without knowing their story (perhaps for lack of empathy) but it is extremely off-putting and turns people away from the faith rather than draw them in. This is the last time I visit ISBC and I would encourage any readers to either find a different masjid or practice...

This is the only masjid in the area. After being immersed within this community for the past year, here is what I have concluded: it is a big masjid, big community, large land space for expansion, unfortunately it is strife with politics, people constantly asking for donations each time I have been to this masjid for any prayer, including jummah prayer, the imam is so outdated that although he does know Quran and stories behind to back the verses up, he is completely blind to his immediate surroundings, the community, and constantly blames sisters for kids. This masjid, is content with providing outdated information, staying well inside their own community and not putting themselves, nor making their masjid known in the city/county, even though they have been here for 20 years, no one really knows they are there. Good place to pray, but...

Did a simple inquiry on their website to gather information on the Islamic cultures and worship practices. Was not able to log on to the website without experiencing complications. I followed up with a phone call to the mosque and requested a call back to arrange a live and personal visit to their services. I'm yet to receive a call back after a month of waiting.
