We toured the Searight Tollhouse on Route 40. These can be found on different areas of Route 40 and are fascinating. Built in 1835, this is one of two surviving tollhouses (out of an original six) built by the state of Pennsylvania to collect tolls along the portion of the road that passed through that state. You have to catch them when they are open as it isn’t an everyday thing. Very cool to walk through. The building was designed so that the tollkeeper had good views of the road in either direction.
