Vandervalk Farm & Winery — Attraction in Mendon

Awful awful awful!!!! We thought it would be fun to support a local business for my birthday and head over for a wine tasting, blueberry picking and picnic- well, we started with the wine tasting. The girl at the table was uninterested and had no knowledge of the wine making process. She refused to pour me one wine bc i had told her I wasn’t a fan of sweet. Then she poured me a wine I didn’t like and I asked if I could taste the cranberry, since the wine she pours was not my taste. She had just opened a fresh cold bottle of cranberry wine. Did she pour me this? No. She pushed over a medicine cup with a drop of wine in it and said this was from the last bottle and “don’t worry, I didn’t drink from it” really!??? We would’ve bought a bottle. We would’ve stayed for picking and a wine freeze pop. We would’ve been return customers 100 times over. We are recently moved from Sonoma county. I understand that a winery here will not be as good as there. However, I do expect the same in customer service. That was the single most deplorable customer service experience o have ever had at a winery. Doesn’t know a thing about the wine, not willing to allow customers to try what they may like. The cashier did come after us and offered to buy us a glass of wine due to the exceptionally poor service we had received, but the damage was done. I will stick to one of the other many Christmas tree farms in the area for my trees and drive the twenty minutes to Chepachet when I feel like...

Great place for a short visit and spend some quality time with your friends, loved ones, or a date. The wine the drinks are great, very flavorful, and a good variety of wine derivations.

The highlights: The place's main attraction is spending time with others and sharing a good set of light starters and light food. The facilities are clean, and the atmosphere is excellent.

The price: $$$ Is on the upper end of the midpoint; however, if you carry away with the cocktails and mix, the tap can grow very quickly.

In general, I gave it four stars because I feel it is a bit overpriced and there are not many attractions. However, what is available makes it for a great time with a loved one to disconnect, have a great conversation, and then stroll around. Highly recommended if you want to chill out. We spent a fun Friday evening at Vandervalk sitting around one of their fire pits. Our servers/hosts (Sonnet, and Alan Bill) were fun, friendly and very personable. We had a smattering of drinks from different beers to sangria. All tasted good and were cold! Very quick turnaround from the time we ordered to the time they got served. There was an option to buy a glass with your pour which we did, but subsequent drinks were delivered in plastic cups. The grounds are kept very clean as the staff continues to pick up the empty plastic cups and throw them into easily accessible trash cans. They even had several different food trucks on-site too, although we never visited them. We had a great time and look forward to...
