Really nice walking nature area. Saw a white tail deer and a ton of song birds. Good mix of lower level plants . About 70% of the park has significant road noise, which for a park that is 100% nature focused is disappointing. The trail system lacks a map anywhere in the park... at least one should be at the trailhead as many trails don’t loop and are dead ends. The trails also are mostly muddy due to the fact that the trails are grassy pathways which are overflowing with dandelion seed heads when we were there. Mulch would be a welcome addition to solve that issue allowing drainage and weed control.
Note to City of Mequon Parks: Much of the forest area are ash trees and with the emerald ash boar eventually killing all of the trees there needs to be a planting initiative to replace them at the moment. So without this area being actively managed I imagine that much of it will eventually be a dead nature area overrun with buckthorn. Please show it some love sooner...

The only reason I can think of for why that might have occured is perhaps because Garrison's mom also died…about 5 years ago I think. She was instrumental in the creation of Garrison's Glen. Garrison's Glen was created as a memorial for a local child who died. It’s a beautiful park with 2 main parts...each has its own small road that leads into a small parking area. The more visible site is great for short hikes. There's a great path which leads you around the area.
The second area is very close by...the 2nd road is a little further west on Pioneer Road. It wasn’t finished as early as the first section which is one reason it isn’t as well known. There's a boat landing for small boats like kayaks and a local fisherman told us it’s a popular...
Read moreThis place has been really improved. The invasive buckthorn has been cut back and there's a new canoe rack. The river is not very deep; in mid-summer you will end up dragging your boat...
