Made a visit one weekday morning, had an opportunity to go on a bird watching walk with some friends. We were joined by a trail guide from the main office, Ellen. We went early in the AM around 8 and as we were guided along the longest of the 3 finished trails. using the binoculars we had brought with us we had several opportunities to see rare and common native birds. The park is continuously being improved and there are many very nice features currently available. tables benches bird feeders the amphitheater is very nice early in the morning... Check out the website for the details. I had a nice time walking with my friends the trails are clearly defined and cover many areas of the park. I will surely be visiting this isolated park with all its hidden gems. Read moreLovely setting along the Rio Grande, which was high and fast due to recent rains. We hadn't figured on the mosquitoes coming out so take bug spray, esp. after a rain. The buildings and info center are scenic and the gardens tranquil. Due to staffing limits, the center wasn't staffed so we did the self-check in and payment and availed ourselves of the brochures. Highly recommend. Just don't like dogs in this kind of setting. One owner had her dog off leash for a bit. Another assumed that we would like her dog to approach us,...
Read moreVery flat path. Brought 4 kids, aged 4 to 11. It was fun to be by the river and to see so much green. We saw so many lizards, rabbits, brightly colored birds, and butterflies. The visitor center was unexpectedly charming, even though it was mostly closed up because of covid-19. The little botanical garden was really well kept too. There were a ton of mosquitos and flies by the riverwhich kept us from staying longer. It felt smaller and better maintained than Rio Bosque...
