A cute little impromptu, local art piece. Which are the best kind. Exit on Lower Flat Road and drive past the Flying J truck stop, and keep driving for awhile. You’ll pass the official Mesquite Regional Trailhead (small parking lot), and as soon as you hit the smaller trail markers (cement paved paths, on the opposite side of the road you’re essentially there. Along the right, embedded into the rock “sections” are ‘blocks’ of carved art.
Most noticeable is the Statue of Liberty face and torch. Just below it is Little Mt Rushmore. Up the road from the Statue of Liberty are more engravings (drive up the road, slowly) and you’ll reach the Sphinx (Pharoah head), the Easter Island heads, and some more...
Read moreWorth a look see! On your way to or from Mesquite. No crowds, off the beaten path, and kinda funny; Little Mount Rushmore and Lady Liberty Rising is a quick stop along your drive through. I’m and artist/ sculptor so I had to stop by. These naive styled relief carvings are right out of the crumbling rock side so erosion will eventually wash them out, but for the time being it’s a there hopefully awaiting some restoration or new rendition of these iconic images. Other reliefs include - Wile e Coyote chasing Road Runner, an American Flag motif, Tom chasing Jerry, Peanuts characters, and a Castle.
