Another great hike today! It's very flat and all gravel, so it's easy going. Much of the trail walks along the branch of the Des Plaines River and that's Pleasant. The forest is beautiful and clean. There are a few different loops and the signage is very well marked. Unless you're there in the winter, bring bug spray because the mosquitoes will eat you alive! There is plenty of parking here. I haven't used the bathroom in a long time, but when you need it, it's convenient. The loop around the pond is very pleasant if you're only coming for a short break from life.

I try to make it out here at least once a month from the city. It's definitely a bit of a hike, but worth it. There are a handful of walking trails and a small playground for little ones. I noticed over the winter that they had cut down *a lot* of mature trees and when I went back this week, they had a bunch of them piled up by the parking lot. There's also a lot of new construction homes being built directly around this forest preserve, so I do worry about its future.

Beautiful, well maintained park that’s great for all sorts of trail recreation, from hiking to biking to cross country skiing. The trails are all very well marked, and the preserve is STUNNING in autumn, but I go all year round. In winter, you can snowshoe or cross country ski here (plenty of classic skiers so there’s usually some sort of track). It connects to trails all the way up to Wisconsin. Parking could be limited on weekends on nice days.

This is a nice, kind of an off the road forest preserve that has trails to walk or jog and to fish as well. All trails are very well marked, signs are available for planning your hiking or fishing.

Plenty of parking is available, even for busses too. I believe a Rangers station is there (not sure on their availability) plus pit toilets with some hand sanitizer.

Definitely a nice place to get with nature and I will return when in the area, along with it's neighboring Half Day Forest Preserve, of which both are connected...

Gorgeous Lake County Forest Preserve, in Mettawa, close to Lake Forest, Lake Bluff, Vernon Hills and much more. Trails along the Des Plaines River are sometimes closed due to flooding however if you park in the lot where St. Mary's Road dead-ends into the park and do the blue - yellow - red loop (about 2 miles round trip) which is along the eastern part of the preserve you can avoid this. Also a great place for cycling and the trails serve as connectors for those riding the Des Plaines River...
