Old School Forest Preserve in Libertyville, IL is a beautiful and well-maintained park that is perfect for birthday parties. The park has a variety of amenities, including picnic tables, grills, playgrounds, and trails. There is also a large open space that is perfect for setting up games and activities.

I recently visited shelter B to celebrate my friend daughter's birthday party at Old School Forest Preserve and it was a huge success. We had a picnic lunch, played games, and went for a walk on the trails. The kids had a blast and the adults enjoyed the beautiful scenery.

The park was very clean and the facilities were well-maintained. The picnic tables were shaded and there were plenty of grills available. The trails were also well-maintained and easy to follow.

Overall, I highly recommend Old School Forest Preserve for birthday parties. It is a beautiful and well-maintained park with a variety of amenities that are perfect for kids and...

I’ve been walking/and or running with my dog/dogs here since 1997 and have loved it. It’s quiet, well maintained and people respect others on the various paths and trails. However this morning around 10, my dog and I were chased off the yellow trail by a coyote. It came upon us quietly from behind me so much so I didn’t even hear it. I keep walking hoping it would leave us alone but the next thing I know it was within a few feet of us and and baring it’s teeth. It kept following and menacing us until I got far enough away that it stopped. I’m sure we were near it’s den but I have never been so afraid in my life. Please watch yourself and your dog/dogs if you...

This was a various wooded area with many bike and walking trail/path options.

The main road is a one way with many trail heads to choose from. There are various ponds as well. Birds and small wildlife were plentiful. My pup and I went on a Sunday late morning, about 10AM, and it was not too crowded.

My pup was off-leash most of the time and the paths are nice and wide.

PLEASE follow the prompts for each pathway as there are paths for walking only and other areas to bike.

Some of the trails have plenty of shade (The Pink trail) while other are direct sun exposure. Watch your step by the ponds' edge, frogs a plenty line...

Loved this forest preserve! Great place to walk the dog. The only complaint I have is that its extremely loud and you can hear the traffic so much. Not the forest preserves fault at all, just something I noticed. Beautiful scenery and trails. They are kept up nicely, you can tell. Love that there is natural exercise equipment along the trail. Whomever planned this place out, did an excellent job. Would love to come here more frequently in the spring, summer and fall. The trails are quiet in the winter and are great length. Not too long, but wind and twist through beautiful forest. Definitely would recommend to others.

I visited the Preserve on Friday at 10 AM, enjoying beautiful weather with a temperature of 74°F. However, I found the pink trail at this location to be quite uninteresting, featuring old wooden exercise displays that seemed designed for giants. While I was there, a young man was recklessly driving a grass-cutting machine, wearing ear muffs, which felt very dangerous. Additionally, the natural scenery was lacking; I only spotted two flowers, and there was minimal diversity in the plant life. On the positive side, the entrance is free, and there is plenty of parking available, clean bathroom and picnic benches.

Nice spot for biking and hiking/walking with link up to Des Plaines River Trail and North Shore Trail. NOTE!!! Be aware of toxic invasive plants! I just saw Giant Hogweed this weekend right next to the path in several spots. (Looks like a giant version of Queen Anne’s Lace.) all parts of the plant , especially the sap, are toxic and will cause phytophotodermatitis (rash, blisters, burns, light sensitivity). DO NOT TOUCH IT. If you are with children, make sure they know not to touch it as well. Photo included to show plant.
