There is an interesting land formation 2.5 miles north of the town of Mexican Hat along Highway 163. Here you can see what appears to be a sombrero shaped mountain a few hundred meters off the east side of the road.
What is most interesting about this land formation is the top flat rock which appears to be balancing upon a much small rock sitting upon a large rock mound.
Note: There are roadside exit signs for a dirt road at Mexican Hat, which allows you to drive much closer to this land formation. There are a couple of pullover spots along this road where you can take photos from a much closer position compared to Highway 163.
In the end, this is a another fun and interesting geological structure to see and take a few pictures of if you are driving along Highway 163 during your...

🇺🇸#friday on the @mexicanhat who is one of the most beautiful place around @monumentvalleynavajotribalpark in @visitutah in the @usa. It is on the San Juan River on the northern edge of the Navajo Nation’s borders in south-central San Juan County. The @mexicanhat is shaped like an upside-down sombrero, the towering Mexican Hat Rock rests precariously above the town. Those who want to see it up close can check out the quick, moderately rated .07-mile hike that starts on Mexican Hat Road off of U.S. Route 163. Adventurous scramblers can climb right under the hat’s brim, but you don’t have to white knuckle it to enjoy the view. This is a highly recommended place to take some PICs if you are passing this way cause it’s well worth the drive, but not quite as good as Monument Valley. But, it’s free, excellent and not nearly as crowded....🎥📸😎🚙🇺🇸 . . . . . #friday #thefabiosilva #youtube #tiktok #instagram #facebook #picoftheday #iphone13promax #travelusa #roadtrip #travelblogger #roadtripusa #travelgram #photography #naturephotography #instatravel #traveling #unitedstates #adventure #exploreusa #theoutsider #roadtonowhere #livinthedream #mexicanhatrock #mexicanhat #monumentvalley #utah...
Read moreIf you are going to drive through Monument Valley and go back, this is the place to turn around. Its worth getting to here to take pictures, not just of Mexican Hat, but also of valley of the gods. Mexican Hat itself is a wonder of nature. How the rocks ended up like this is a miracle of erosion. It must have taken thousands of years for the rocks to get like this. You can get good pictures from the road, but there are also walks that get you much closer, so you can get some idea just how big the thing is. Well...
