We visited John Bryan State Park on October 22, just as the fall colors were fading away. If you’re looking for a prime parking spot for your visit, I recommend setting your Google maps destination to “John Bryan State Park Lower Shelter”.
From this parking area, you will have access to the “AA” trailhead, which connects to virtually all trails along the Little Miami River (South Gorge Trail, Pittsburgh-Cincinnati Trail, Ridge Trail, North Rim Trail, and more).
The South Gorge Trail is accessible by crossing the South Gorge Bridge and runs along the south-side of the Little Miami. This trail runs along the river and features large boulders along the trail, babbling brooks that feed into the river, small bridges to cross the brooks, and a beautiful rock face along the entire gorge.
The Pittsburgh-Cincinnati trail is runs parallel to South Gorge Trail along the north-side of the river and also has large boulders to explore and has a more colorful canopy of trees (better autumn colors).
Connecting the two trails are two bridges: South Gorge Bridge (east) and a smaller foot bridge (west). Together, these bridges and trails make a natural loop that is a moderately easy walk.
This park is dog friendly (except for the special trail that run through the...
Read moreA beautiful place that has a number of hiking trails and a well kept campground. It's a good idea to stop at the camp office that is located near the park entrance. A park employee has park maps and good knowledge of the trails and their condition. The office offers for sale a few refreshments and candy. The lower rim trail is just that, it follows along the rivers edge and offers beautiful picturesque scenery in the gorge. The trail has Rocky and muddy trails that can become slippery in areas. I don't recommend the lower for those with physical disabilities. The upper rim is pretty with some views of the river and muddy spots if it's rained recently. The trail has a couple areas that may be difficult for some. There are a couple of hazardous cliff locations and young children should be kept close. There is nothing to prevent someone from falling. Some good old common sense should be used. There are several parking lots that have trails leading to the gorge. Again it's a good idea to discuss your preference with the camp office personnel on difficulty and length of the trails. And always take your trash back out with you and dispose of it properly. We saw chip bags, diapers and general garbage that should not have been there to begin with. Have fun...
Read moreI visited with my daughter, son-in-law and two grandchildren in Fairborn Ohio over the Memorial Day holiday weekend. On one of our morning outings we visited this great park. The place was very busy with families and friends hanging out. The parking lot was full. There is a small restroom facility by the parking lot that my almost 4 year old grandson used. The entrance to the trails is directly across from the lot. There are many signs to direct you to where you want to go. Today we did not hike the trails much. We followed the signs down the rock stairway to the Little Miami River. It was a little bit muddy due to the amount of rain during the past week but we found a place on the bank of the river to sit down. I was surprised by the power of the rapids in the middle of the river upon which people were canoeing. My grandson and I did some exploring along the river bank. We climbed a slightly steep cliff and then followed a trail back down to the river. The water in the river was cold but fun for playing in by us. I want to return here soon to for more hiking. I saw a lot of kids and parents having so much fun here today. Until next time be kind to each other and stay healthy. @johnbryanstatepark @dayton @yelpcincy #memorialdayfun #familyfun...
