Update: These people will let you in and charge full price right up til close and not even warn you they're closing. They close at 7pm and I went in at 5:45. Got to the trail and did a few trails until some jerk MPD bike cop came by in his suv yelling at everyone that we should've been out the park at 6:30 and we were overdue by 7min. He kept barking the whole time over his pa. So, they want everyone out by 6:30, but will still charge you and let you in. We even saw some people paying at 6:54 and heading in. It wasn't just the bike trails, they were kicking everyone out of every area. Crazy how our tax dollars fund these parks, then we get charged to use them, and they've got a stick up their rear while you use them.
Original Review: Nice park with great trails. I usually ride Amelia, but decided to try this out yesterday after a few rains due to hearing it doesn't get as muddy. The trails were very well made and taken care of, parking was plentiful and despite how many riders there were, it didn't feel crowded. The only fail, is there are no bike washing stations at the entrance. I heard there was a spot mid-trail? But that wouldn't even make sense. So, if you visit, plan to take your bike home to wash. You can't even give it a...
Read moreVirginia key has the potential to be a great park. It has a hidden beach that you would never knew existed unless you accidentally stumbled upon it, at least thats how found. On the weekends make sure you come early because it gets packed... I MEAN PACKED!
Now I personally dont go to this park for its beach. I go here for the true hidden gem, which is it's amazing mountain bike trails. These trails are handmade by the local legend who goes by the nickname "Frenchie". He along with other locals that are prevalent in the biking scene created this fantastic course which holds trails for bikers of all ages.
The park is pretty clean for the most part and its a pretty cool place to take the kids, especially with the Museum of Science and the Miami Seaquarium located so close by.
Pros: Plenty of parking available mountain biking restrooms bbq areas beach it's location
Cons: disgusting bathrooms which never have toilet paper parking though plentiful tends to be harder to come by especially during holiday weekends It's located right next to an industrial plant which I believe creates compost so there may be some questionable...
Read moreThe mountain biking here is the most intense there is in Miami-Dade. If you are used to mountain biking at Oleta State Park as I am. Know that everything here is a level higher. The park uses a 5 level trail system to capture the full range of difficulty. What is novice at Oleta and marked with the 🟢 is called adaptive here and is marked with a orange triangle similar to this 🔼except that the colors are inverted. The Intermediate 🟦 trails at Oleta = Novice 🟢 trails here and so on. This is just a general rule and some of the more difficult trails in each category at Oleta may be equivalent to a trail here at Virginia Key. The trails are clearly marked and well maintained. Which is not always the case at Oleta. Another important difference is that the trails at Oleta tend to be narrow and have a lot of roots making it more difficult to go fast. While the trails at VK tend to flow and feature more frequent and dramatic changes of elevation. They also have many cool wooden bridges, ramps and jump lines. Overall this is hands down the best mountain biking park...
