What a great improvement in cleaning up this preserve since I was last here over 2 years ago when it was truly trashed. This preserve runs along Rocky Run creek for some distance. This is very beautiful forest area for the first part and then forest and fields on the other side of the creek.
Additional trail markers would be very helpful as I only found the location of cement pavers to get across the water because it showed up on my Garmin. The kiosk at the parking lot could use a map (which it had two years ago but no longer). Also adding a bridge type crossing for those not comfortable using the cement pavers or walking through the creek would increase accessibility for more less able bodied people.
Overall this is a wonderful piece of land. Rocky Run is a beautiful creek with large boulders that run through an area with some large old trees. It also has fields that provide habitat for many birds.
It should be noted that this preserve connects to the the Darlington Valley Open Space and the Rocky Run to Rocky Run YMCA and also the Rocky Run Trailhead on...
Read morePretty nice park. There were a couple sections of trail which required crossing a river and it was difficult for a couple people in my group. Fortunately, no one fell in, but they did get their shoes soaked. There also appear to be several other parking lots to access the preserve from which I hadn't realized. So it may be better to go on a different set of trails than the one accessible from this specific lot.
The preserve itself is pretty nice. There are a few sections that get very close to public roads and even have a road that needs to be crossed. As well as parts of the trail that go next to private property, power lines, and a few...
Read moreNice place to spend some time walking the trails or hanging out at the parking lot socializing/having a picnic. If going across the creek from the trail, there is no bridge but do look for some cemented saucer shaped steps to cross at one of the first turnoffs. Alternatively, find the worn paths to the stream towards the rail tracks and give balancing a try! There is a nice bench with a decent lookout at the top of the hill once the creek is crossed. Note, there is also a piece of the trail on the opposite side of the road from the parking lot to traverse, which appears much...
